Bartsfam #1 Posted May 1, 2011 (edited) I think Venture would be my favorite CV game of all, if the controls didn't suck! Even with my Yurkified controllers, I feel like I'm in a mud bog. Does anyone have a theory as to why this is? Was it rushed to production? Lack of memory? Or lack of programmers experience in making decent controls for the game? I wish maybe it could be hacked to make the controllers more responsive! Edited May 1, 2011 by Bartsfam
Murph74 #2 Posted May 1, 2011 It's just the physics of the movement. I seem to recall the arcade responding very similarly.

Push one direction and let go let your player move his bow to the direction he wants to shoot. If you want to move keep the direction pressed. Startropic for the NES use this similar style of control.
Bartsfam #4 Posted May 1, 2011 I just think that he moves too slow. I wish he was a little more speedy. I love NES Star Tropics, and never had a problem with the controls for that. In Venture, I don't like how the "monsters" are just out of reach of the arrow. They are either too high or low, and it's tough to make that slight adjustment to kill the monster. Also, when a monster dies, it takes awhile for it to disappear, and if you run into it's remains, you die!! One more gripe, is sometimes the monsters don't leave the entrance to the room on the map, making it impossible to enter the room!! But other then that, I love the game! This is mostly a problem with almost every 8-directions games Some time ago, I build a prototype arcade controller, and using real arcade parts did really help There's a ColecoVision DIY Arcade Controller Kit comming soon
deadmeow #6 Posted May 9, 2011 That little dude in Venture just moves too slow. Otherwise its a nice looking game. I had that for my Intellivision, which was awesome. I think the Intellivision version might be a little smoother with the movement.
tz101 #7 Posted May 9, 2011 INTV venture is closest to the arcade and has nice smooth controls IMO. I played a lot of arcade Venture way back when and never noticed a lag of any sort in the controls.
