SlowCoder #1 Posted May 4, 2011 I have been covering my consoles with towels to keep dust off. Not the best solution, but it works in a pinch. As some of you may know (or not), I recently expressed interest in console covers for my systems. Oldjd's wife makes nice covers, and at good prices (plug ). I considered for a while buying a number of covers from her, but I thought I would be able to benefit more by learning a new skill for myself, sewing. (Sure, go ahead and make fun, but it's a good skill ) That way I can make more covers as I get more consoles, and I'm pretty well guaranteed to be able to match them up. As a trial I made one for my NES to see how it went. One of my criteria was that I wanted to be able use my cover without having to disconnect cords. So, here is my trial: I plan to make one for each of my consoles over time, and I'm sure I'll get much better as I do more.

SlowCoder #6 Posted June 1, 2011 Here's my 2nd cover, for my Genesis model 1. This one is a bit different, because the cartridge sticks out. So I designed the cover to allow for it. I'd considered just laying a flap over the cart slot that could be lifted up, but that would allow dust in the sides when a cartridge is in.
Seob #7 Posted June 1, 2011 Are u playing these machines with the cover on top of them? Because they need some fresh air to cool down. Looks good. Looks like your sewing is improving.

I know very well the need for the machines to breathe, so, no, I will not leave the covers on them when in use. Thanks for the sewing props!

0078265317 #11 Posted June 2, 2011 (edited) If not using them while covered then no need for cart slot cover. Just take the cartridges out and then cover. You have to anyway unless you just plan on playing only 1 game for the rest of your life. And if you add a little room then you also have to allow for game genie or other accessories. Sega had a genie or something similar I believe. As for using while covered you could install a fan or cut out a square hole and put a hepa filter. Anyhow looks good thanks for sharing. What material is that you are using? Edited June 2, 2011 by 0078265317

So for the most part there will be no need to remove the cart. It's pleather.
DickNixonArisen #13 Posted June 2, 2011 Yeah, they are great looking. What's the rough price for the lady who sells the other types? I really should invest in some, now that I think about it.
SRGilbert #14 Posted June 2, 2011 I wonder how much harder it would be to make them out of clear vinyl, like the kind bettery shower curtains are made from?

I want to think about $15 per? But don't quote me. She's oldjd's wife, and yeah, she does a great job. I seriously considered getting some of her stuff, but I felt the need to learn a new skill.
