carmel_andrews #1 Posted May 5, 2011 I bring this subject up since i can't seem to remember there ever being any 'dual format/dual platform' games being released on games systems (classic as well as current) The concept did exist (albeit in very limited form) on classic computers (mainly atari commodore/atari apple and commodore apple, sinclair amstrad etc), Chris Gray's 'Whirlinurd' being one of the few titles sold as 'flippies' (i.e atari version on one side and commodore version on the other side) If the concept of dual format/platform games did exist (either current or classic) name them here as well as what dual/multi format it was
bfutrel #2 Posted May 5, 2011 I believe Stellar 7 was C-64 on one side and Apple II on the other.
Reaperman #3 Posted May 5, 2011 (edited) Fahrenheit's Sega CD/32X disc comes to mind. Also the GB/SNES Space Invaders (full 16-bit super gameboy game in there) Really all of the black-cased GB/GBC games might count too. PsychoKittyNet #4 Posted May 5, 2011 A few years ago, burger king released some games that had both Xbox and Xbox 360 versions. I know many computer games will contain both windows and Mac versions.
jferio #5 Posted May 5, 2011 It's only possible on certain consoles. Certainly not on anything that's cartridge based, and not on anything that uses copy protection schemes and data formats outside of the CD 'book' standards, such as Sony's offerings. And even then, without those considerations, it would reduce the 'per game' profit margin because a royalty would have to be paid for each version on the disc to the respective console maker. godslabrat #6 Posted May 5, 2011 It's only possible on certain consoles. Certainly not on anything that's cartridge based Really? Impossible? Stupidly impractical, sure, but impossible? If two systems used the same cart board thickness, couldn't you do a multi-system game as a Xonox-style double-ender? For example, have the Atari version of the game on one end, and the Coleco version on another. Granted, the two games couldn't share any common circuits or chips on the board, but it seems like it would be possible on a "totally useless" level.
