Murph74 #26 Posted May 8, 2011 I suspect most will answer whoever was president in their adolescent prime, and I'll do the same. It was under Reagan that arcades peaked, and home gaming really took off. From the 2600, Intv, Colecovision, SMS and NES, to the Apple ][e and C=64, I don't think there will ever be another era of as many different types of games with originality and replayability released across such a broad spectrum of hardware. There are plenty of other hidden gems out there too between the early PC games, the Amiga, the Atari ST, and a slew of other 'forgotten by the masses' platforms. And then you can also get into the LED style handhelds of the 80's. While I get that the games get more sophisticated and more in-depth with each passing year, it's not the modern ilk of games that appeals to me. I'm the type who was happy 'escaping' reality for however long my quarter would allow and come back to try to top that experience with another quarter. A game with an 'ending' to me, is just an interactive movie- which is cool for a moment, but with no replay value it really doesn't grab me as an 'all time great' game. And for me, too many buttons is a turn-off, too. Give me a a controller with 3 buttons or less, and I'm in a mind-numbing, happy escape.

+atari2600land #28 Posted May 9, 2011 Clinton for me, not because he's my favorite president (he isn't. That's William Henry Harrison), but because the Game.com, Dreamcast, and N64 were popular at that time. I'd say Reagan's administration is a close second, for all the Atari 2600 games. GKC #29 Posted May 9, 2011 The George H.W. Bush through Clinton years..... basically the late 80's through the 90s. Between those 2 presidents I would pick Clinton: N64, PS1, Saturn, Dreamcast, 32x (yes I said it!) Jaguar, PS2 (he was President into Jan of 2001 correct? With the PS2 being launched in October of 2000?).

What many fail to realize is that over half the VCS games came out under James Earl Carter. Reagan did not take office until late January of 1981.

I'd say it's probably more like under a 1/4th. There were a few gems under Carter, like Space Invaders, but I think it's probably safe to say the majority of games, especially the extremely popular ones, were under Reagan. Not that Gamespot.com is a defining source, but they have a list with release years and very few seem to fall under Carter if anyone is interested in looking.
