atari5200dude82 #1 Posted May 9, 2011 WHO HAS MORE GAMES . ATARI 2600 OR NES. I AM A HUGE ATARI FAN. I HAVE A FRIEND WHO IS A NES FAN. I THINK THE 2600 BEATS OUT THE NES, WHAT DO YOU THINK?
high voltage #2 Posted May 9, 2011 (edited) THE MAGNAVOX ODYSSEY HAS THE MOST GAMES, ACTUALLY. But seriously, the VCS comes in with aprox 580 original releases, the NES/Famicom, according to Nintendo Japan, has approx 2200 original titles. atarigal #3 Posted May 9, 2011 NES has way more titles. But Atari is better.
tz101 #4 Posted May 9, 2011 NES has a huge library compared to VCS, but no reason to squabble, just own them both.

Nukey Shay #6 Posted May 9, 2011 And if you want to include aftermarket releases (homebrews), hacks, unauthorized pirates, etc...the NES completely obliterates the 2600
+wood_jl #7 Posted May 10, 2011 And if you want to include aftermarket releases (homebrews), hacks, unauthorized pirates, etc...the NES completely obliterates the 2600 Yeah, but no "Hack 'Em" on NES. +1 for Atari 2600.

Schizophretard #9 Posted May 10, 2011 NES = New (and improved) Entertainment System. Improvement on what? The NES is an entertainment system and the VCS is a computer system. They are two different things. One is just a toy and the other is a computer that can play one game of chess with you for months.
Godzilla #10 Posted May 10, 2011 i certainly have some nes games i love (godzilla, natch.) However, I have never found any games on the nes even close to the speed of 2600 games (like kaboom, space master x-7, entombed, oystron, man goes down, etc.) So, the nes could have 100,000,000,000,000,000,000+ games and it wouldn't matter. Also, solstice and a few others aside, I generally can't stand it's sound (in-era, give me a c=64 any day.)

flammingcowz #14 Posted May 10, 2011 I can't be a computer if there is no keyboard or monitor. A desktop PC is not a computer then? Yes, you can hook up your own keyboard and monitor to it, but they are not built in. Same as with the atari.
0078265317 #15 Posted May 10, 2011 (edited) It is not builtin. When is it ever. But atari 2600 doesn't have a keyboard even external. Edited May 10, 2011 by 0078265317

0078265317 #19 Posted May 10, 2011 http://www.atariage.com/controller_page.html?SystemID=2600&ControllerID=4 Keypad and keyboard are two different things. And I've never heard of the compumate thing. What was it used for? Now some cool modder needs to make an nes keyboard.
high voltage #20 Posted May 10, 2011 (edited) Why should someone hack together a NES keyboard, when Nintendo already made one back then? And here's the Atari VCS Compumate keyboard in action (so yes, the VCS has a keyboard external): It's used for ....computing... bomberpunk #21 Posted May 10, 2011 i'm sorry but i need both in my life. they, along with the genesis, are what i grew up with. one does certain things better than the other and vice versa, but that's like picking a favorite child.

maiki #25 Posted May 10, 2011 He's talking about games so why do people come up with hardware elements... It does not make much sence to compare a product from 1976-1977 with the product from 1982-1983. The technology was evolving so fast back that it is completely unfair for the 2600...
