The Official "Thrift finds" Thread

I'm sure I paid too much for this, but it was at a Goodwill, and it was a game that I was planning on buying anyways. GTA Vice City for the PS2. It has the map, manual, and a pristine disc. In fact, I don't think the thing's ever been played. I'm sure if I hunted a lot, I could have found it for less than the $5.99 I bought it for, but oh well.

And those Intellivision carts that Kitsune Sniper picked up were a freakin' deal! Pac Man alone is worth $10. You got a good $100 in resale there alone.

notta thrift find.. but y'know..

we need a dumpster dive/free sticky

any ways..

two gateway branded 21 inch trinitron flat screen crt's, and one 19 inch flat CRT

all free.. a friend of mine who does work for the SECA went LCD, and wanted the old ones out.

also this week..the brewmasters computer blew its IDE controller.. so the hard drive was recovered and backed up. and flashed to a new computer..

I got to run off with the carcass of the dead computer to harvest some of its more useful components.. .. nothing fancy.. but I'll be able to up the wifes computer to a 933 cpu, and shove another 256 of pc100 ram it.

Corning SalVal, last night:

SNES $3

Nintendo (w/ Mario left inside) $3

"How to Master the VIDEO GAMES," by Tom Hirschfeld $.49

(I felt this was a little much to pay until I noticed that it offers "The hottest tips on Pac-Man.")

"The Insect World of J.Henri Fabre," a translation of work by the French entomologist who 'united poetry and science.'$ .49

On Thurs., I found Fantasia, Dune & SuperMarioWorld (SNES) $2 each.

Hadn't really done the rounds this week, but f9ound a few things anyway. That's my life, I guess. ;)

NES - MEGA controller (crazy thing takes batteries and has an LCD control panel for memorizing moves) - $1

I bought a MEGA controller back in the day. The LCD has a built in game, almost like a Nintendo game & watch, which as you played & improved your score, would net you better settings (turbo/slow-mo/etc) for which to use in actual NES games. Kind of a weird little option for a controller, I think the only one of it's kind until the dreamcast controllers came out with the memory plug-ins & playable games.

Nice find, Ghost Soldier! I wish I could find some decent Saturn games nowadays!

I was shocked to find them. They where sitting in a pawn and the guy behind the counter was upset that one of the associates bought them from someone. He was complaining that they would never sell. Then I walked in and bought all of em.

Found a few things over the weekend.

Fighters Megamix CIB Saturn 1.00

Virtua Fighter CIB Saturn 1.00

Virtua Fighter w/sleeve *promotional copy Saturn 1.00

Virtua Fighter Kids loose Saturn 1.00

Die Hard Arcade loose Saturn 1.00

Genesis 3 Button Controller and Rf-switch .59

Man, i was just in a local Goodwill and they had about 25 complete Saturn games under the counter. $7 each, for something they got for free. I'd really like to have a talk with whoever does their pricing. I'm sure they don't understand what they are, or realize the tremendously low percentage of their customers that are even going to HAVE a Saturn, they're just priced high because a few of them still had $39.99 tags on them from retail. :(

Even though i hate to support that kinda crap, i did pick up Bubble Bobble, Bust-a-Move 2, and Panzer Dragoon, just because they were in SUCH good condition and i've been eager for something to do with my Saturn.

I swear though, Goodwill stores are starting to be priced like the managers are skimming off the top. What other possible motivation could there be for the outrageous markups on donated merchandise from what's supposed to be a charitable organization? Although they way they price the clearance stuff that Target unloads on them, i guess i should be glad that they went *down* from the retail tags, and not back *up* in price.

Those are usually part of the standard fare of Saturn games for sale around here. I grabbed too many of them today. I picked up Sega Touring Car, World Series Baseball '98, and Robo Pit all CIB today. Two were $8 each, and WS Baseball was $4. Best find of the bunch was Robo Pit. Now if I could find a CIB Virtua Cop 2 in the long box with the correct disc...it's a rarity 6 title. Yep, it was sold without the stunner for a little while.

Awesome! I'll have to try to play with it before I pitch it into the bottomless storage space of doom... Thanks for the info - there was nothing I could find about it on the net.

Score today. Wow. Still kind of can't believe it. It was in the near Chicago suburb where I grew up - I was visiting my mother and decided to go to a very divey Salvation Army where they never have anything. These are the days it pays to turn up every rock.

All of this was $20

NES system, controllers, zapper, AC

U-force controller

(all games were in sleeve with docs)

M.C. Kids - McDonald's tie-in game

Spider Man: Return of the Sinister Six

The Simpsons: Bart Vs. The Space Mutants

T&C Surf Designs

Operation Wolf

Tiny Toon Adventures

Heavy Shreddin'

Quarto 4 in 1: f-16 renegade, cj's elephant antics, Go! Dizzy Go!, Stunt Buggies

Pro Wrestling

Super Mario 2

Abadox

Zelda - grey cart... never seen one of those before

Track & Field II

Spy Vs. Spy

Kung Fu

Sky Shark

TMNT

Destination Earthstar

Dr. Mario

Metalstorm

The Hunt for Red October

Super Mario 3

The Simpsons: Bart Versus The World

Super Mario/Duck Hunt

Rocketeer

Ice Hockey

Hydlide

Zany Golf (for Genesis... one of my fave games on the Amiga)

Now I've got to find a rarity guide and see if any of the ones I've not heard of are worth some green. ;) any recommendations besides DP?

Awesome find on the NES stuff. The zelda grey cart, and your quatro 4 in 1 look like the rarest to me.

and Panzer Dragoon, just because they were in SUCH good condition

Whoa. Isn't Panzer Dragoon worth tons of money - like $50-100? Or is that the sequel game I'm thinking of?

Nah, it's like $15 or so i think. Panzer Dragoon Zwei is like $30, and then Panzer Dragoon Saga is like $100+.

So...in an odd turn of events, i got a bunch of my loose games swapped out for complete and minty copies today. I also got a few complete games i didn't already have. Good times. Here's the list. :)

-Completed NES games!

Paperboy

Tetris

Rad Racer

Dr. Mario

-R.C. Pro-Am

Burgertime

Yo! Noid

Super Mario Bros. 2

Hogan's Alley

Mickey Mousecapade

Spot

Ice Hockey

Caveman Games

-Completed SNES games!

Donkey Kong Country 2

TinStar

TMNT Tournament Fighters

Daffy Duck: The Marvin Missions

Sunset Riders

Stunt Race FX

American Gladiators

Home Improvement

-New NES games!

Vegas Dream

Road Runner

Yoshi

The Jetsons

Metal Gear

Rollerblade Racer

Gilligan's Island

Fire 'N Ice

Fester's Quest

Bomberman

Super Dodge Ball

Zelda II: The Adventures of Link

Short Order/Eggsplode

-New SNES games!

Winter Olympic Games

PGA Tour Golf

Wario's Woods

Spectre

Wildsnake

Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure

The boxes on all of these are still glossy and sharp-cornered, with all manuals, inserts, what have you. There was even a SNES Game Genie complete that's still in its little plastic bag inside the box.

I had a really good morning. :)
