The Official "Thrift finds" Thread

We should have a "My wife found stuff for me" thread.

She stopped at some tag sales driving around this morning and found me the following:

Intellivision 2 (complete, boxed, all internal cardboard) no games, but it's in superb condition and it's my first

2 Commodore 64s, both with all hookups, both boxed, one with the manual, but one is boxed in a "Commodore 16" box --no idea about that

1 Commodore 64 1541 disk drive

1 boxed "An Introduction to Basic:- Part 1"

1 boxed "VIC 20 VICMODEM" (no use for it, but hey, it was with the rest of this stuff)

Genesis Game Genie

NES (all loose)

Game Genie (with book)

Double Dragon

Double Dragon II

TMNT

TMNT2: The Arcade game (with book)

Paperboy

Donkey Kong Classics

Batman

Wizards and Warriors

Rollergames

A really cool vinyl Spider-Man poster

All for the grand total of $28. That's twenty-eight dollars.

I have the best wife ever.

Bumped into a NOAC thingy the other day. It was shaped like an N64 controller but had a NES port on the bottom. It looked kind of strange to me.

I didn't want to spend the $5, so I passed.

That would probably be one of the Power Joy family of Famiclones. Some of them come with a cart with a bunch of games, others have the games built it and you access the cart by holding down the reset button (IIRC) while powering on the system. Some of them also have a built-in light gun function while others come with a separate gun. They are nice to have on hand if you every buy and Famicom games for trade bait and want to test them out.

Hit several places today and came back with stuff:

The Incredible Journey (the original, not the Disney remake) on VHS for $1

FF7 Disc 1 for $10 (this is already spoken for)

Sears Pic Baseball (also spoken for)

and a three game deal that I thought was decent:

Jawbreaker

Title Match Pro Wrestling

and a mystery no label Parker Bros cart

The Parker cart turned out to be...

not Frogger

not Q*Bert

not Popeye

...it was

Jedi Arena! Whee

e! Its label had fallen off in the box, but I knew there was still a chance that a different mystery cart had been thrown in there after the label fell off.

Jawbreaker, Title Match Pro Wrestling, and the Parker cart cost me a total of $5.

not thrift related finds, but finds nonetheless.

Here in Portland this weekend, its been big trash week.

rescued a very nice reel mower from a neighbor, saving me the trouble of having to pull the lawnmower cord a bazillion times like usual. No gas either! :)

also picked up a VG condition Gamecube Box.

See, that's what I love about retrogaming. The rest can spend their $50-60 on the latest games. I'd rather spend $10 and get 5-10 great games that are just as much fun now as they were years ago. :D

There are a lot of rally great games for Dreamcast - many are very creative and unusual... especially toward the end when Sega was willing to try anything. The ability to easily run homebrew code is really nice too of course. I walked into a Gamestop when they were clearing out their used units for $7 each, so I took all they had. That way I've got some backups so I'll always be able to play my favorite games. Now if I could only find that broadband adapter for no damn good reason at all... ;)

I was mistaken, I have a saturn, not a dreamcast

I got mine from my buddy that's a sports nerd, consiquentially. most of the tittles i do have are sports related. the only platform games i have are sega sonic 3D, and the 7-up spot game.

I'm not a sports nerd, so the only "sport" related tittle in this little collection is the nascar game.. and.. well.. it's not very good.

wasn't legendary nights a saturn release? or was that dreamcast?

Virtual On by itself is easily worth what you paid for all of those. Awesome find!

Oh, bear in mind that Virtual On does have a link mode, so if it's a dupe, you still may wanna hang on to it. I've got a couple of 'em myself.
