Man Grig, that's a hell of a haul!

If you do any work on that C-380, do me a favor an take pics? I've got one that works, but jitters. I don't wanna open it up without having some sort of idea of what's in there (since I'm still very new to the idea of fiddling with a system's innards.)

I'm trying to fix one that has a weird graphics issue and have no idea where to start with it. Compared to a 2600 it looks like real ancient tech

EXACTLY, so USE it and keep the whiny/bullshit comments to yourselves!

Without that little magic button, AA would be nearly intolerable these days. ;)

On that note - buh byeeee!

Seems like you generate more than your fair share of BS across multiple threads.

Personally, I prefer to read every clownish post on Atariage, including yours. But there are limits. I suspect there are plenty of long time users here who agree.

I'll take a stab and say Leisure Suit Larry.

This should be a pretty good guess considering I don't even know those games, and therefore assume they are for PCs or something.

I guess one of the things that really grinds my gears is when you see a game but have no idea what system it's for. I don't really use my computer to play games, but why is it so hard sometimes to just label what machine you need to play it?

Giggity!

Looks complete. (?) Not sure what's up with the other disks, they were in the box when I got it.

Absolutely I will. I may have to unscrew the thing just to get the battery cover off. Unfortunately I think that means there are exploded batteries inside. Hopefully not. The jittery paddle control may be an easy fix if it is like fixing 2600 paddles. Anyway I will keep you posted when I get into it.

Nice haul, and have fun cleaning that stuff up, though there is a certain amount of pride when it is all cleaned up and working.

I take great pleasure - and yes, a degree of pride - in this process. In fact, I've refused offers here on AA because the systems/games/etc. had been previously cleaned. I like to be the one scrubbing away with a toothbrush & soapy rag, blowing out cobwebs, soaking deck shells, etc.

I've brought many action figures back from the grave, as well. Things that fellow collectors had given up on. Granted, most of 'em will never again be C9s or C8s, but I'm contented knowing that I've taken them from "crap/throwaway/C1" to usable, enjoyable items. :)

I just got a quickshot for 10 dollars. I offered 10 instead of what it shows here. Anybody else use this one before?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Arcade-Style-Controller-For-Nintendo-Nes-System-Part-QS-128N-Quickshot/132301577961?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

Not sure I'd give $10 for one at this point, but yeah, I used one for years and I loved it. Great for large hands, much like the Advantage and that Beeshu model.

You should enjoy it, assuming it's in good working order.

The worst is when you find things like cat hair, litter, rat poop, etc in a dingy console or cart. That is nitrile glove time.

I don't understand why people treat their stuff like that.

It breaks down even worse when you figure (maybe I'm dramatic) half the games on the system were sports, racing, and wrestling games.

Some of the best wrestling games ever made, though B)

There's also an easy feature built into AtariAge for handling unwanted content or unsolicited life advice (and internet smart-asses) called the ignore filter.

Nah, I don't believe in "ignoring" people, it just seems petty to me.

I didn't think my question sounded that offensive.

Yeah, it's repugnant. I try and remind myself that some of the nastiness is due to small children having their way with these items decades ago, but that only excuses so much. I've refurbed decks filled with corn chips, webbing, dead bugs, etc. Scrubbed away peanut butter, remnants of sugary drinks, and what I'm pretty sure was feces.

The absolute worst, though? A few years ago I met up with a pair of tweakers via CL. Got a PSP, a Game Gear, and a box of random stuff. I noticed right away that the GG had a strange odor and discoloring around the seam. Removed one corner screw, pried it open just a bit, and a swarm of roaches poured out, alive and dead. :woozy: :woozy: :woozy:

I nearly threw the friggin thing across the room, but I was able to seal it in several large Ziplocs with a squirt of bleach before my gorge rose enough to barf, lol.

My buddy in Norway asked that I send it along anyhow, along with some other GGs in need of repair.

Wouldn't you know? He was able to clean it up and get it running! I believe he kept that one for himself, heh.

I wonder how it is that the roaches didn't devour/damage the internals? Their waste is toxic, as well....pissing and shitting all over those boards and diodes....(shudder)

No argument there on the wrestling games, just there's quite a bit of them is all and I lumped it in with sports and racing. N64 had a nice library, just a big chunk of it fell into those categories which is a shame, but it does help to cut a chunk off when looking at a list of the rest.

Just a little maybe off by just a few trivia. N64 - US-NTSC library 296 games. I just filtered the entire game list on the Wikipedia by genre, then region (JP goes to top, so I bypass it...) and I added up anything and everything classified under both just SPORTS (anything from serious, wrestling, goofy junk, and Mario sports) and then RACING (again goofy, serious, whatever.)

Racing Games = 55

Sports Games = 86

Total R/S Games = 141~

Total US NTSC = 296

That leaves 155~ games that are any other genre. That's why I pointed it out as I knew it was roughly around half. It's not too hard to find something good in those 150~ other games.

Grig, that is a hell of a nice haul!!! :-o Glad to see you got a 5200 Wico Command Control in that lot. They really make the 5200 much more enjoyable. I was lucky enough to get a pair of them a few years ago for mine (at a thrift, no less), and they are well worth it.

This was quite some time ago, but I rue the day I passed on a pair of Wicos with the keypads for $100. Couldn't justify the expense at the time as things were tight.

Found a few nice little oddities today. First NES game I've seen in the wild (flea market pull up) that wasn't a regular or indoor ripoff -- $8 for Ms Pac Man (tengen) and $2 for a loose Starfy DS for my kid. $2 for 50-60+ year old souvenir stuffed black bear from the great smokey mountains with a red collar, chain leash and red matching handle. Also found 2 really cool very old mini books, one is Space Ghost the Sorceress of Cyba 3 and Daisy's Red Ryder Gun Book -- neither in great shape but $5. Also found that dumb but amusing Pixels on blu ray for $3. Also for my kid 2 sealed up ZhuZhu pets toys -- Peachy the hamster and a boxed up red convertible with purple ball toy thing with it. All in all very good.

I didn't think my question sounded that offensive.

I tend to think this is one of the major problems with online comments in general. As they say there is no "Tone" button on the internet...It's often hard to say if someone sits smiling and makes a tongue in cheek observation or if they're being negative and trying to be a real douche for whatever reason. At face value it's hard to say what you meant with your comment, and people took it in the worst way possible, I guess, probably since it seemed negative for no actual reason. (This doesn't mean that was your honest intent)...Kind of like pointing out something everyone does and have always done and making it like you have a problem with it, when in actuality you may have just been smiling and wondering what little quip someone was going to respond with, if anything...

Emoticons help, but they only go so far. Context also helps... if the other person you're talking to doesn't get the reference, you could be in a lot of trouble. I remember making a quip about the James Woods episode of Family Guy to an AtariAge member named James Wood... that didn't go over so well. Heh.

I'm not a fan but I will use a couple smiley faces or sorts in case it could be taken totally wrong.

Oh and after that last post I found something else shortly after that didn't make it before edit flipped off, but I picked up Fire Emblem GBA for $15 which I noticed is like a $40 shipped ebay game so I wasn't disappointed by that at all.

Not exactly a festival of finds today by any stretch, but the bright & crispy 65 degree afternoon helped make it excellent! Plus, we had sushi and some sections from a huge Greek party hero.

(smacks lips)

Beautiful vinyl/rubber turtle replicas, very similar to the ones I enjoyed as a boy:

Wow I would have been very happy to find that Dash SotE figure and that TMNT bowl -- hell I'd use it.

I did find some really sweet non-gaming stuff today at thrifts. Evaded the usual flea weekend run this go around to do a garage sale with the neighborhood so I went thrift trolling this afternoon and I'm happy I did really.

$6 for the all wood fold up table, just needed a cleaning and screw tightening on it. Now I have a nice fold up table to put stuff on in my chair there or for having lunch on at the first goodwill.

The Dune 2000 game is spotless and case still has the original Sony sticker seal over the top for $6 too at HPB.

For $5 there's the Looney Tunes 2 DVD set there and also a really amazing ($1) Beatles Live at the BBC 2 CD set which is also spotless and has 69 tracks on it which is nuts. It's from 1994, never heard of it before but it's rare to find that much on 2 discs and has a booklet in there too both at goodwill. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Live_at_the_BBC_(Beatles_album)

And at a St Vincent Depaul shop for $5 found this kickass 1980s GE Model 3-5283-A ghettoblaster -- great loud speakers, solid working tape deck(haven't had one of these in over 20yrs), great radio on it, power cord with it, or runs on 6Cs.

Good stuff, man.

You into the Dash figure? I don't give a shit about SotE, so I'll set him aside if you'd like.

Obviously we'll be using the turtle bowl, she's eating bridge mix from it while playing PS2 as I type this.

;)
