MVS Monitor Problems

Recommended Posts

Hey,

I just a got my first 1-slot dedicated MVS cab (3 Koam Z-Cab) off Kijiji! Everything so far seems to work great, at least for the most part. All the joysticks and buttons work (after cleaning the microswitches), the coin slot, and motherboard all seem to work perfectly. The monitor is having a few issues though, and i was hoping someone could point me in the right direction.

When I first got the cab the guy i bought it from said he had never changed the monitor from the factory settings; It worked 100%, but it was a bit dim (I figured it was just that the brightness needed to be turned up) so when i brought it home i opened up the back panel and fiddled with the brightness and contrast trying to make it a little brighter and/or clearer. I succeeded in both those things and the monitor now has fairly decent color and brightness (although there is some distinct color bleeding when bright blue is displayed on the screen)

However, there are now feint diagonal lines running on the screen in the background of the monitor; I can play it just fine, but it distorts the colors and is fairly frustrating. it just looks like interference to me (but what the hell do I know) so I was wondering what the best route to take is. I was thinking It could be that it is not properly earth ground...but i have no idea what else would need to be grounded inside the cab (I have never dealt with arcade machines before)

It is a WG K7000 monitor chassis and a Zenith tube; I am going to purchase a cap kit from Bob Roberts and see if that helps any, but I was wondering if there was anything else i could try. For now i guess i can just live with it, but i would like to fix it ASAP.

I will try and get pictures up tomorrow, but in the meantime if anyone has any advice it would be much appreciated.

*EDIT* I forgot to mention that often the lines will appear for about 5 minutes while playing, then go away for a couple minutes; it seems to be fairly random, but that is why i thought it was interference of some sort

I can't tell you myself, but check out www.neo-geo.com/forums and check the tech support link. No doubt they can help you; I should ask about my 4-slot's funky sound problems.

Sounds like you are seeing the "retrace" lines of the flyback on the screen. It just means you have the SCREEN knob turned too high. You may be able to adjust that out some with a black control (don't remember if that monitor chassis had a control for that or not) but chances are not. If the colors are ok and the screen is not all bent out on the edges, chances are good that the cap kit won't completely solve your issue. The Neo's saw some hard hours in the arcades and chances are the tube is starting to go. Best bet might be to find a 40 buck dead arcade fighting game on CL and swap monitors. 25 inchers are getting cheaper all the time now.

Turn down the screen adjustment and your color bleed will go away too :) If the monitor has a tinted screen over the monitor, try running it without that too. The classis did that to hide burn in but I don't recall if your machine did or not.
