Murph74 #26 Posted June 1, 2011 (edited) Can you define what you mean by "overlap"? Having one section of a web site for unreleased CV games and one section for homebrews is something we pretty much can all agree on. But that doesn't mean there shouldn't be cross-references. Take Spectar, for example. Shouldn't there be a mention in the homebrew entry that the game was originally an unreleased game? Likewise, shouldn't there be a mention in the unreleased entry for Spectar that Scott Huggins did a homebrew version of the game? People who visit the web site will certainly want to know these kinds of facts, no matter which section (unreleased or homebrew) they browse through first. Well, my comments were based on your post about "I think they belong in both unreleased and homebrew sections", PixelBoy. Personally, and I realize I'll probably be in the minority here, I don't think the homebrews should be noted or linked on the unreleased/vaporware pages on a title by title basis. If there were a blanket note or link at the top or bottom of the page linking to the homebrew page saying "Several titles have inspired homebrew versions" or something similar that would make more sense to me. It's not like I won't visit the site, but I think that could just cloud or confuse the information for people new to the hobby who are learning the history of the system. Homebrews are very similar to 'fan fiction' of popular TV shows in my mind. Very creative, very imaginitive, and show an undying love and dedication to the subject that often goes above and beyond what the original creators ever envisioned! But they don't alter to the original 'official' universe of the subject, or in this case, change the fact that a title wasn't released in a 'commercial' environment during the system's shelflife. (And please understand, I encourage and support new homebrew projects, this is in no way meant to sound negative towards homebrews!) On the flip side, I think it's TOTALLY fair to cite the inspiration for a project on the homebrew page, whether if it's a unreleased or unfinished title from the 80's or a port from another system or whatever. Maybe I'm overthinking it, but you asked me to define 'overlap' and that's what I was attempting to do here. This is just how it makes the most sense to me-- I'm sure some of you will be quick to see it differently. And while it's not my site, I love what Ole has done with the site, and continues to do. How he formats the site is up to him. I enjoy the heck out of it and find something new to read about every time I go to the site! (Thanks, Ole!) I'm also looking forward to seeing how Retrillucid and NIAD handle these entries on their upcoming site. Murph Edited June 1, 2011 by Murph74
