Just bought a bulk lot of games and found a surprise...

Recommended Posts

So I bought a lot of 53 Atari 2600 carts off eBay, knowing there were some oddball labels. The photo was small, so I was taking a gamble....for $54...I think I won.

Most of the games were the standard variety, with immaculate labels (I just added a bunch of Activision carts to my loose collection without any Actiplaque). Then I got to the ones with the strange labels.

3 prototype Activision carts - River Raid, Spider Fighter and Sky Jinks:

The River Raid even came with a b/w typed set of instructions

Additionally, I found this copy of Spider Man:

It looks normal on the outside, but look at the board inside:

I've never seen one like this. It also came with typed instruction. I was wondering if it is also a proto. Any thoughts?

How does the Spiderman play? Notice any differences with the regular version?

I didn't play for long...just to test, so I don't know if there are any differences. What does that board look like to you though? I was perplexed when I saw it. icon_confused.gif

Looks like there's an probably an ERPOM in there. Since it came with typed instructions, it was probably a pre-production sample/review copy.

Just found the Sky Jinks b/w manual as well...looks like a photo copy of something done in house.

I have been checking out all of my games to see if there were any other oddities and I found something (could be nothing)....

Cosmic Creeps seems to have a different start up screen on the one I bought. Everything looks the same on the cart (both are handle carts - same label)...just the opening screen seems to be really glitchy. Anyone else ever find this?

Also. I checked Spider Man and the 1st board looks and plays the same as my normal cart.

Nice for the price, I have ripped open a few share of Parker carts and a lot of the early ones had EPROM's in them, mostly the 4K titles. They didn't use an inverter IC, they used a transistor circuit to invert the line. :)

Cool about the Actiprotos though. :D

Any ideas as to why the title screen would be slightly different on that cosmic creeps?
