atariron82 #1 Posted June 8, 2011 I found this unit at a fleamarket in Tennessee, for $10 a few years back. It has been my faithful Inty console ever since. I never really thought anything about the **special** feature staring up at me in the center of the faceplate, until I read about the INTV System III having one added as an "upgrade", between the reset and power switches. Since I also owned an INTV III, I just assumed they relocated the little red light :!: After a moderate amount of research online, I have yet to find any images or information about my unique(so far) Intellivision model variation. Until that changes, I guess this will remain a previously undocumented "1st" discovery. Check it out folks: In the "off" state; what's that thing in the middle of the shiny sea of gold? 1981 Hong Kong build, model 2609A: 'Mattel Electronics' Intellivision is "On" Sporting a 'Stickler'! for joystick gameplay: Ready to play my favorite INTV cart! AtariLeaf #2 Posted June 8, 2011 Sure its not a homemade thing? I've got a Coco 2 with a homemade red LED on it too
jaybird3rd #3 Posted June 8, 2011 Probably just homemade. It isn't a difficult modification to make, but I like the LED better where INTV put it: between the POWER and RESET switches. They mounted it inside an LED holder (this one is an approximate match), with a blob of hot glue on the inside of the console to seal it in place. I've thought about doing it with one of my Master Component consoles, in fact.

+cmart604 #5 Posted June 9, 2011 Unfortunately when I see it, the first thing that comes to mind is "third nipple". that's a mod.

It would explain why it doesn't seem to exist otherwise,.. unless it was some kind of late-in-the-game prototype concept. I don't think Mattel Elec. was inclined to be rethinking a slight design enhancement of their original console at this stage(mid '81) since they were most likely working on the Intellivision II. What's got me is the overall quality of this supposed mod. The LED is dead center on the faceplate, with out any warping of the aluminum or percievable scratches to the finish. Someone put alot of time and care into altering this Master Component. I've been tempted to crack this baby open and maybe get to the "heart" of the matter... Is your IntV a boy or a girl? LOL,..you guys are killin' me! She's a girl. Then again, all of my consoles are female, obviously due to the uuh...cartridge slot
