eccofonic
Has anyone ever done this before? Mega ST keyboards are "rare", but 520 & 1040ST's are plentiful. I recall trying this about 4 or 5 years ago with an RJ12 connector and placing wires where they were supposed to go, but when I booted the Mega it began rapidly beeping. I think I disconnected one of the wires to stop the beeping, but I don't recall if I got it to type. I also recall reading something on the internet about a pull-up resistor (?) being present on the Mega ST keyboard but not on a 520ST/1040ST. jokker
I too would be interested in this information!
oky2000
Alison was helping me with this, certainly not a straight swap with bits of wire though.
Charlie_
I don't know if this is the same, but I found this while browsing and thought it might help. http://phsw.110mb.com/hw-stkbd.html
eccofonic
I don't know if this is the same, but I found this while browsing and thought it might help. http://phsw.110mb.com/hw-stkbd.html Thanks for the link. I'm going to use a 1040st keyboard (has mouse/joystick ports) and I'll post an update if it works with my Mega ST.
oky2000
All my STF (inc 1040) keyboards have no mouse or joystick ports, just a keyboard unit with a ribbon cable.

eccofonic
I finally dug out the storage tub that has my Atari ST parts in it and I found a board labeled "C100063 Rev 3". See the attachment... it has an RJ-12 connector, an ST internal keyboard connector, and 2 joystick ports. I hooked up a spare 520ST internal keyboard, an ST mouse and an RJ-12 cable to the Mega and it works. I don't remember where I got it or even that I had it! Could this be from an external Mega/TT keyboard... anyone know?

+rdemming
Could this be from an external Mega/TT keyboard... anyone know? Yes, the joystick ports and RJ-12 connector on your PCB are at the same position as on my Mega ST keyboard. The Mega STE keyboard has the joystick ports at the sides of the keyboard and not in the middle as the Mega ST keyboard. Atari TT seems to use the same keyboard as a Mega STE. delvis
Going to try and make the keyboard based on Eccofonic post. Hopefully will work. I do have the PS2 converter already that I use right now.
ParanoidLittleMan
What is missing on ST, STE, Falcon keyboards is reset circuit, since reset signal is lead there. Mega ST, TT, Mega STE has no that line by keyboard, it generates self reset signal for IKBD chip. It is easy to solve - just need to add capacitor and resistor. 220 microF between reset pin and GND, 10 K between +5V and reset.
delvis
I ordered the parts to build this, once I have them I may need to get more info when I go to try this.
delvis
Parts came in and it is working. See other post. Every now and then it does sound like a key is stuck and starts rapid key stroke sounds. I hit reset and it normally clears it and it works fine with Mega ST. ddlugose
@Delvis, if you are still around, would you share your parts list? I just bought a mega 2 and have an original 520st keyboard I would like to try and make work. Thank you
