rorysl #26 Posted June 13, 2011 No, for sure! I take all your points! I may go with this deal just for convenience sake but I'm in no rush. And you may be right, I may need to hold out for a better deal! Anyone out there in Atariage-land got one? Further to that, when I do finally get a C64 I'll be looking to pick all of your brains for pointers!
Mirage #27 Posted June 13, 2011 Note that I was editing (adding to) my post probably as you were replying... I offered to mail you just a key, unless benny or whomever already offered you one can. Whichever. I have probably 30 or more spare keyboards, and the keys that I took of some broken ones just to save space. A pile of keys takes a lot less space than a bunch of keyboards! nathanallan #28 Posted June 13, 2011 If it were me and I had never seen one in the wild, I'd jump on it for $80 for that package. I NEVER see that many games at once, and have seen maybe 10 in the wild here. Just my imho.
+bennybingo #29 Posted June 13, 2011 If it were me and I had never seen one in the wild, I'd jump on it for $80 for that package. I NEVER see that many games at once, and have seen maybe 10 in the wild here. Just my imho. I think the main thing that would justify the price, IMHO would be the games as well. If there are that many games, and they are originals (boxed or not), it might be a very good deal. Another thing to consider is how the bundle has been stored. Those disks could be in rough shape if they were stored in an attic for any period of time. The disk drive is a dog, but you can always purchase a better drive down the road, if you find yourself becoming more immersed in the C64 hobby. I think that if the missing key is the only sticking point, it seems like it is still an ok deal to me. I know that you can find these in the wild for less sometimes, but it has become a less frequent find for me, and less and less of them work after I get them home. PS: figure out which power supply it comes with. The old bricks (the black ones) are known to fail, and when they do, they can do a ton of damage to the computer....but that's just one of many things you will learn about the C64's along the way
Mirage #30 Posted June 13, 2011 I agree about the games, that if you care about mostly loose original floppies, that's the only thing that makes the $80 seem not quite so bad. Man, with the prices you guys are willing to pay for C64's, at least I know now if I ever get in a pinch and decide to sell off a bunch of my 64's, I'll be rolling in the dough
zylon #31 Posted June 13, 2011 The price on 64's does keep climbing as attrition and power supplies take their toll on the remaining systems. Few people willing to fix or pay to fix them only adds to it. Of the ones I've run into last few years, 1-in-4 works, especially the breadbox style. 64C's seem to have held up much better, possibly due to being the newer models. Mirage #32 Posted June 13, 2011 Cool, I'm gonna retire on my collection one day then! j/k, I want as many to survive as possible like most everyone else. Too bad the OP isn't around this area, there's still many of them showing up on CraigsList every week, cheap.
thegamezmaster #33 Posted July 20, 2011 Not a bad score! As far as price, it's up to you if it's worth it or not. Plus you got a bunch of games to boot. Pun intended. as far as the missing key, you might try googling a site that sells Commodore parts and see if they sell individual keys, I know some used to. Or maybe someone you know has a dead c64 you could get it. I just dug out my old C64 and disc drive and games. Hooked it up and works fine. Forgot how many great games I had. A real blast from the past!
