Angry Birds.. for the 2600?

Recommended Posts

I was playing the online version of Angry Birds (if you haven't played it: http://chrome.angrybirds.com/) and brainstormed "could a 2600 version be made of this?".

I'm not trying to troll here, just wanted to throw the idea out. It would have made a cool Activision game in the early 80's.

probably so. you'd just have to take the game mechanics from something like this, make it one-sided, at some little green oinking targets, and presto.

My 500MHz Droid drops framerate every now and then when I'm playing Angry Birds. I'd hate to see what a 1.19MHz processor would look like. There's a lot of physics going on with all the birds, boards and particles in that little game.

It could be a simplified version, it wouldn't need the complicated physics and could still be fun.

You would need is a sprite for the birds, a sprite for the pigs and use the playfield for the boards. The boards might have to just break when they are hit rather than move.

If I get time I will try to make a demo in bBatari basic.

Human Cannonball. No need to port that Java rubbish.

No doubt. IMO, Angry Birds might just be the most overrated game in history.

It is a great game. It would be cool to see a 2600 version, though it would probably be far inferior due to the killer physics engine that AB has.

Speaking of artillery games, there's a good history of these over at Armchair Arcade. The first artillery game I ever played was text based, so long ago that I can't remember what platform it was on.
