tz101 #1 Posted June 22, 2011 Does anyone actually like to play video games with the controller rumble feature activated? I have always found it annoying and turn it off on games that have that feature. I simply cannot stand to have my controller vibrating while I am trying to concentrate on a game. Austin #2 Posted June 22, 2011 I liked it back when it was relatively new in the N64 days, but these days I prefer to have it turned off. Maybe it's my hands becoming frail from too much gaming throughout my life, but the rumble function irritates them more than anything.
Rex Dart #3 Posted June 22, 2011 I don't mind it in most games. Friend of mine always disables it though. But yeah, it rarely bothers me. Maybe if they rigged it so it conveyed information other than "!"; left/right or something, then it might have a purpose.
Rikkarr #4 Posted June 22, 2011 I always have it activated, but I rarely even notice it.
Lendorien #5 Posted June 22, 2011 I don't bother with dreamcast and N64 games. On PS2 and PS3, though it remains on by default. I normally don't even notice it much at all.
Tr3vor #6 Posted June 22, 2011 I keep it on, unless i'm grinding the rails on inFamous, that gets annoying.
Sonic R #7 Posted June 22, 2011 wow! I thought I was the only one who went out of my way to turn off the rumble/vibration in games! I can't be bothered with it… I always found it to be a gimmick IMO… of most my friends, they give me a hard time for not liking the rumble feature! Seob #8 Posted June 22, 2011 I keep it on. I really missed the rumble function on the first ps3 controllers, so i'm glad the new one has a rumble function. It gives just enough feedback in racing games to take corners faster by going over the curbs.
bomberpunk #9 Posted June 22, 2011 i like the heartbeat effect in the Fatal Frame games.
Algus #10 Posted June 22, 2011 I don't dislike it but I haven't ever bothered to get a rumble pack for my N64 or upgrade my Sixaxis controller to a DualShock 3 so I guess I don't really care about it either.
Reaperman #11 Posted June 22, 2011 (edited) I look at rumble as a required feature on modern consoles, and am extremely hesitant to buy anything without it. I stayed clear of PS3 until the controllers were updated, and its one of the reasons I've stayed clear of the DSi. I guess I should be counted as a major fan of rumble. Itchy Koala #12 Posted June 22, 2011 I don't really notice that its on when I'm playing xbox 360, but when the controller starts to die and the rumble feature disables I notice right away and get it charged up again.
SlowCoder #13 Posted June 22, 2011 Done properly, I believe rumble can be good in games. Like the rumble is hard or soft depending on the situation. And don't overdo it. Like in a racing game, don't rumble everywhere I drive, and for each tap on an obstacle. But it's good for a crash or when landing a jump. Or in a FPS game, when you get shot. I've played games where you could "feel" each footstep or the "rumble" of the engine, and that's too much.
