Question: Digitized Sound on Atari 2600

Recommended Posts

I tried to attach some samples and code, but the forums have way too restrictive rules (seriously, I can't attach a .c file?). I uploaded here instead:

http://www.acc.umu.s...ppen/files/vcs/

Is the output you have out there from a real VCS or is it just the simulated 5 bit output? I'm curious to know because the output with the shaping that says 5 bps is really incredible?

What is the sampling rate you are looking at? Could you write a decoder for this?

I wonder if you could put a really dead simple title screen in and play background music using this method. It would make for incredible never before heard of sound on the VCS!

chjmartin2: I had a ROM that decodes the 1-bit samples and outputs as 5-bit PCM. Unfortunately I seem to have misplaced both the code and ROM, but the output sounded very close to the .wav output.
