Well, I'll be damned. They finally figured it out. They finally figured out that it's a good idea to put the cool mobile suits that I'm buying the game for at the beginning of the game. Instead of having to slog through hours of missions in the original Gundam or some crummy Zaku, the game has the Nu Gundam, Gundam XX, and Fb-01 ready to play almost immediately. Huzzah!

Any chance they are making it so all the filler mobile suits don't suck balls? Having one freaking attack with no possibility of continuous chains of combos is fucking retarded and it really killed the last ones fun for me. I mean seriously why can't a Zaku and all the other basic mobile suits have awesome combos as well? Make it a little weaker then the Gundams obviously and not as flashy or fast but the ability of different types of attacks would be really improve the gameplay. As is all the suits like Ball, Zaku, Gyan, Dom, GM, Gouf, and the others like them served no function in the game other then to be cut down as they weren't even close to being worth using after the 5 min or so of novelty wore off. :/

Agreed. I thought the other 2 DWG games were okay, but I'm loving this one. I'm a big fan of the Gundam 00 show, and was really psyched to be Setsuna right off the bat. I've only started playing, and am hoping that I can be some of the other pilots from 00. Gundam Virtue would be awesome.

 

As usual though, I'm just not used to the whole dubbed routine. I wish I could have the Japanese voices with English subs.

Dang I never finished the first one!

I need to get back on these games ASAP. I remember having a lot of fun with the first one. (Even though I'm not too savvy on Gundam.

Ok, so there is a way in the options to set it so that there's Japanese speech with english subs. I was really happy to discover this.

 

All in all I am still really liking this game. There are a few things I wish were added or different, like I wish that the game kept track of what missions I did with which pilots. There's so many that I start to lose track if I try out too many different people. A few other minor things like this I was were different, but it does not detract from the game.

 

I do not like the way the DLC works though. I was hoping that for like 10 bucks or some jazz that I'd be able to get a pack of multiple other Gundams, and from what I understand from the forums at gamefaqs, it does not work like this. You buy them individually for about 600 points each, and that sucks. Despite this I will probably end up putting down the points just to get Lockon Stratos. I'm pissed that they held out so many Gundams from 00 as DLC.

 

 

I do think that some reviewers were unfairly harsh on the game too. For example, IGN giving it a 4.0 - the half page review basically gives away that the guy did not spend much time on it. Sure, it can be repetitive, but I can make the same claim about Diablo. It all comes down to him deciding the game was bad because he's just not into the Gundam shows and the Dynasty Warriors games. The first sentence of the review really makes it clear that he hated the game before even trying it out.

 

However, being IGN, all this means is that Koei did not pay them.

Ouch. This game was my first exposure to 00, so I can't say I even noticed this. Can't say it surprises me much after the way the DLC characters were handled in Fist of the North Star.

 

I bought this one almost entirely for the XX and GP-01Fb. This is a game all about hopping in your favorite mobile suit and just zoning for a couple of hours, so it's a bummer they've locked you out of your favorites like that.

Gundam 00 was actually the first Gundam show I really sat and watched all the way through. My wife is a big fan of anime, and through grabbing fansubs of shows she likes on usenet, I've not only become a big fan myself, but have discovered quite a few that she had never heard of.

 

I have just started watching the Gundam Unicorn episodes, they're pretty cool. I'm actually making it a point to now see all the others when I'm not waiting for a new episode of Tiger and Bunny.
