2600 Wireless RF Controllers - Can you mix?

Recommended Posts

As part of an auction I won I got a wireless controller and receiver. If I got a 2nd controller, can it work with the existing receiver?

I'm pretty sure there's an "A" and a "B" controller for each set. You would just have to find the opposite of the one you have.

You're right. I just checked mine. I have a set of Game Mate II controllers and on the bottom it says left and right controller. I also have a lonely controller like Slowcoder's. It's an Atari Inc. one that looks like a Vader controller. I got just the right one and the receiver.

Well crap. With my luck that's exactly what I'll get. A single 2nd player controller. I'll have to crack it open and see if there's an internal switch that changes the player mode.

What I'd like to see would be wireless paddle controls.

But if it is the 1st player controller then you will know where to find it's mate.

EDIT: Also, instead of changing the player mode you could just plug the wire on the receiver for right controller in the left controller port.

Could a controller port be added to a wireless joystick with a switch for either the joystick or the controller port? If that would work then you could have all you're controllers wireless.

I doubt the "receiver" is set up to give the analog paddle data to the VCS.

You're probably right. You think it would work for other joysticks?

Ok, I just won this auction: eBay Auction -- Item Number: 1706616513201?ff3=2&pub=5574883395&toolid=10001&campid=5336500554&customid=&item=170661651320&mpt=[CACHEBUSTER]

Looking at the picture, it looks like it's just the receiver and 2 controllers. From what I remember, the receiver plugs inline between the console's wall wart and the console. I don't see a connecting cable to go from the receiver to the console. Can someone provide info on the connections? I'm thinking it's probably just a straight headphone style connection on both ends, which I could build myself.

On both of mine you plug the VCS power supply into the receiver and a cord from the receiver goes into the VCS power inlet. The cords aren't removable. They are attached like the joystick ones. Yours looks different though. It looks identical to my Atari branded one but mine doesn't have that red light or whatever it is in the corner of the receiver. So, maybe the cord is removable on yours, it isn't removable but is bread tied up and hidden from view, or it is cut off and broke. My Atari branded one looks like this:

Basically what Benzman66 said at the same time I did.

From what I can remember, the receiver has the two leads, one for left port and one for right port, and the connection for the ac adapter (remember, the receiver takes a power supply too). The joysticks each use a 9 volt battery.

Basically what Schizo said at the same time I did.

Ok. If it is indeed broken, I'm confident I can replace it. Will have to see when it gets here.
