Do you still have your original console

Recommended Posts

I still have my original Sears light sixer. Added an s-video mod and an AtariVox, and have it hooked up to my HDTV.

Unfortunately, at the moment, it's dead.

The 2600, not the TV.

Unfortunately, my original 2600(not sure if light or heavy, but sure it was 6 switch) along with my 2600 jr were sold or given away by my parents :(

but I've made up for it, now I got a Atari-Heavy6, Atari-Light6, Atari-woody, vader, gemini, and 7800 Pro.

Don't worry. We won't pity you. We'll just think you were stupid for not living on higher ground. :D

I've had to rescue fully submerged, and still running, computers when I worked at my old job. Computers completely under water, turned on, and at the Windows logon prompt. Pulled rhe plugs, took them to a drying room. Plugged them in later and worked fine.

Due to their more robust, old architecture, I'm almost surprised yours wouldn't work after a complete drying and cleaning.

I thought an Atari H6er and L6er were woodies (having the wood grain on the front).

I do not. My parents sold it long ago when I wanted to play the Atari for more than my allotted one hour a day. I even had a silver label Gravitar and a Swordquest Waterworld, I had no idea how rare it was at the time.

I now have my original Atari 2600 console back again!!! I had told my parents if they were ever going to get rid of it I would buy it from them. They gave it to me for free.

It's a Vader with about 20 carts. I have other consoles but it is great to play on the same console I played when I was a kid.

Nope =(

Had a light sixer, it broke some time in the early 90s and dad was unable to fix it...so the story goes that he put it somewhere, and doesn't remember where. I suspect mom trashed it.

The power adapter died even before that, but we still have everything else. I don't miss it so much though, since I got a free heavy sixer to replace it a few years back.

We ended up selling our NES and Genesis 2. I ended up getting back at least half of the NES games, but the Genesis games I had to rebuy (to go with my Genny 1). Still have our original SNES, N64, etc. And we have one of those Pong things somewhere, but it probably doesn't work.

I still have all my original Light 6-switch Atari 2600 that ended up being the very first thing I bought off eBay around 2001...that console has now been upgraded with a pause mod, s-video/av mod, and LED mod. My favorite Atari 2600 due to all the hours I spent fixing and troubleshooting it to get it to work as well as ease of hooking it up to my HDTV and get perfect picture and sound.

I still have (and use) the 2600 that I got for Christmas in the early 80's, as well as the games that I received back then for Christmas, birthdays, etc. When I got back into the hobby in the late 90's, I picked up a backup unit and a ton of games on eBay, and have added to my collection since on here. I have also (in recent years) picked up the 5200, 7800, Colecovision, and Intellivision, but I still enjoy firing up and playing the 2600.

Sure do. My original light sixer from summer 1980 was set up in my parents house for about 8 years (though it only saw occasional use after the first 3 years or so....when I moved on to an 800xl computer). Then it was packed away in a closet until 2-3 years ago when I got the itch to play it again. I also won a heavy sixer in a bet sometime during the mid 80s (when the Mets won the world series!). Still have that one packed away. Then a friend gave me a Jr sometime in the early 90s when he was cleaning house. I actually threw that one away when I moved 8 years ago. And last year I bought an early heavy sixer on ebay, which is the one I've had set-up this past year and use with a Harmony cart.

Still have and use my original light 6er from around '80 (don't remember what year I got it). Rescued it from my parents' attic 3 years ago and have been a classic gameaholic ever since. Just what I needed --- a new addiction.

No i do not. I sold it to my typing teacher that I had the hots for in 1984. I think I sold it and the cartridges for around 70 dollars? Maybe 60? Had 5 commons, asteroids, space invaders, combat, air-sea battle, and I think canyon bomber. I had moved onto an Atari 400 and rarely ever played the 2600 anymore since the games for the 400 were so much better than the 2600 versions.

Nope. It was a 4-switcher, I believe, and after a couple years began to suffer from hardware maladies -- bad controller ports IIRC. It was eventually replaced with another 4-switcher (I think), and then a 2600 Jr. sometime during the later 1980s.

I think the Jr. I have now is that one, but I'm not 100% sure.

I've got the Family's L6 and it works pretty well. Inside there was a scrap of paper with August 1981 stamped on it. It uses an aftermarket powersupply, and I had to do a repair on the solder pads that attach the power port to the mainboard.

For years it was in the attic with a rubber band on the right difficulty switch and the power plug - it kept the plug in a position that would avoid the problem caused by the loose solder pad. As a result the right diff switch sometimes doesn't make great contact when set to B - so you get a small paddle in Video Olympics when not expecting it. I think I fixed this with some liberal application alcohol and wiping on the switch contacts.

I recently got rid of all my Commodore stuff to a collector here locally. I had several CIB games (BT II, California Games), and a C64 SX. It felt like I'd given away a child, but none of it worked anymore, and I was making a choice not to put time into that particular hobby.

Original NES still works well despite all the times I tried to beat the 5h!+ out of it playing Tecmo Bowl.

Yip, I still have the Vader that I got for my Bday in 1982 and it works fine but had to replace the joysticks. I played the Vader exclusively for 25 years and then switched to Stella :)
