Project from an old 2600 joystick?

Recommended Posts

I rescued this joystick from my parents-in-law's old shed a few months back: post-26796-0-49345800-1310163571_thumb.jpg

It had probably been in there for 20 years. The shed was in bad shape, leaking, and it's obvious this stick was exposed to moisture, because all of the metal parts were rusted, and the plastic itself is faded. I had to toss the cable, and PCB. The rubber boot had been removed by her brother when he was a kid.

So I was thinking, what could I do with this? What kind of project might be neat?

What about fitting it with a D-Pad? I was thinking a Genesis pad might be a good place to start, but I'd have to figure out how to properly fit the PCB in there.

What other ideas might you guys have?

Dpad sounds pretty good. I just threw out a sack full of these pieces of garbage; should've kept one to mod I guess.

As far as fitting the PCB, you could probably just glue it to a block of wood and glue that to the bottom of the casing.

A d-pad would be great. Probably uncomfortable to hold, though.

Perhaps a 7800 pro-line controller? +1 for saving something that's not longer in production.

You could sterilize the bottom section and use it as a dish for videogame-themed candy. Other than that, I'm at a loss.

Glue it to random toys and put it on ebay for $50

Easier than that ... I could just post it as

[email protected]@K One of only very few left in the WORLD!! This is RARE!!1! This came from a Colecovision made 30 years ago, and you'll be lucky to find another like it because there are no more Intellivisons that work because they're so old!1!. Especially not in this condition and at my modest asking price of $44.99. [email protected]! Tested and fully functional.
