explosiveegg #1 Posted July 9, 2011 (edited) Link to someone whose done it So... I personally love the colecovision system. The only problem is my controllers are terrible, making it almost not even worth playing. I saw this video awhile ago, were he uses the original colecovision controller chip, and uses it in the jaguar controller, hooking up all the number pad buttons and everything. In the video he mentioned seeing someone else on these forums doing the same thing. Making it seem like a more common practice. The only problem I have, is I only have 2 colecovision controllers, so I figured id open up a super action controller (I have 3), and see if it had a similar chip I could try in work with... also the super action controller has a nicer cord. One main difference I noticed was the joystick. The joystick has 8 contact points (up, down, left, right, and the diagonals), as opposed to the colecovisions and I believe jaguar. The Super Action controller was wired pretty bizarrely, using a chip for the 4 buttons, a chip for the analog stick, and another chip for the number pad. Also, this controller uses an 8 wire setup, I believe the original colecovision controller is only 7 wires. So... I cleaned the contacts and put it all back together. I dont really know what im doing though, in all honesty, im really not that good at this kind of stuff. I really want a good colecovision controller with a working number. Mr Do, Gorf, and Donkey Kong just arent the same with a fussy controller. =( Do you think it can be done... moderately easily? EDIT: is there a moderately easy way to mod a genesis controller to be able to have one button work as the number 1 button? or make the top row on a 6 button controller, 123? I FOUND THIS IMAGE... so obviously it can be done. Though that man has done a lot of crazy stuff, that im sure i wouldnt be able to do. Yurkie #2 Posted July 9, 2011 You might want to just send me your controllers and have them refurbished with ball knobs. Controllers have to work 100% regardless of the game or the system, or it's not fun.

explosiveegg #5 Posted July 10, 2011 (edited) About 100 people have had me refurbish and mod their controllers with ball knobs...it's not a gimmick. I wasnt trying to insult you, I simply meant my controller is gimmicky when trying to movie. Its not that I dont like the design of the controller. I just dont like how it doesnt seem to listen to me. Though most the time its actually the trigger that leaves me ruined. You wouldnt believe how many lives have been lost because the controller didnt want to jump the barrel. Though the knob would be nice. I would prefer to keep my 2 colecovision controllers alone. Id just kind of prefer to keep the system untampered. Now if I had a 3rd controller, Id be all over. Though sadly I dont. Ill keep it in mind though, in case i come across another one. ---------EDIT--------------------------------------------------- Ive been looking at this colecovision layout, and I was wondering if anyone has done this themselves... and if so, do they have a sample image (of the completed project) they could spare, that I could try to use as a reference?
