Jr. Pac
Today, I went to a flea market. There was a booth that had a whole bunch of Atari 2600 games for $2 each. At the back of them all, I came across a game with a removed top label, and it said LOANER CARTRIDGE. I pulled it out, and there it was! A prototype 2600 game-only for me to realize that the label marking what game it is was pulled off. When I got home, I plugged it in to my 2600, and lo and behold! Jungle hunt. I am pretty sure that this is a final version. (And yes, I got that SNES Jr. from the flea market too.)

NightSprinter
Incredible find, man! I'm sure there's someone here who would definitely wish to speak to you about that cartridge (as he catalogs every Atari prototype that has been discovered). Tempest
Nice. You should have someone dump that. Can you open the case and see if the EPROMs have labels on them? Tempest
Jr. Pac
If I open the case, does that mean that I have to take off the label?
Tempest
No. The cart shouldnt have a screw in it. You should just be able to pry it apart. Tempest
Jr. Pac
It dosen't come apart. I think it has a screw.
Tempest
There are four snaps in the case. Sometimes they're hard to pry apart.
Jr. Pac
Can you please give me some instructions? I'm scared I'll break something.
Tempest
There's really no trick to it. Sometimes it's hard to do though. I always was able to force the case apart at the bottom of the cart and then twist it to undo the rest. If you don't feel it coming apart then dont do it. Better not to break it. Jr. Pac
It's firmly together. It dosen't want to come apart.
nathanallan
if it doesn't work, then stop prying on it, best to not risk it. Looking at the picture of the label, there is a screw under there. Edited July 18, 2011 by nathanallan
Jr. Pac
Mr. Owl, are there labels on the EPROM in the cart? The world may never know.

Wickeycolumbus
Nice score! You should go back and check for more. Some protos have loaner labels on top of regular production labels and the blank end labels could have fallen off exposing the production labels, so you should check each one. Itchy Koala
You know why its called a loaner cartridge right? You're supposed to loan it (indefinitely) to the first person that asks. That being said, I'll take it.

Some of the games there do indeed look like another label was covering it before. There is some silver label reminence on the top label on mine, I don't think there are any Atari produced carts with a silver top label. @Koala, Sorry, the loan has expired. Loaner cartridges of that kind typically have a blank "text" style end label as you can see in this picture: http://www.atariage.com/common/glossary/glossary_labloaner.html Here is a production text end label for reference http://www.atariage.com/cart_page.html?SoftwareLabelID=

It's being held again next Saturday and Sundey, but my parents say that I can't get any more games... Maybe for prototypes that's an exception. Just let them know they're worth about 50x what you pay for them there
