ATARI7800fan #1 Posted July 18, 2011 Hello. I was wondering how much vectrex's sell. I am currently interested in them and just want to get an idea of if I can afford to collect for one or not. Thanks for your time.
+save2600 #2 Posted July 18, 2011 Every now and again, this question comes up but I'll take a stab here: Console by itself (no overlays, no controllers, no box) in good working shape - $60-$80 1 controller - $30-$50 Console with one controller - $100-$125 Boxed system in good shape - $175-$200 (maybe more if truly mint?) Loose overlays - $6-$10ea Loose games - $5-$15ea Boxed games w/ overlays - $10-$30ea avg. Most homebrews seem to be in the $20 range

+save2600 #6 Posted July 19, 2011 If somebody comes here, asking about prices - it's logical to assume and project the forum prices. What we think are fair prices and more than likely are willing to pay ourselves based on history of trading *here*. People looking for eBay prices shouldn't/wouldn't come to a forum to discuss *their* prices. They'd simply search eBay for current and completed listings. Nothing wrong in pointing out alternative pricing (Game Gavel, eBay, Craigslist, etc.) and maybe base an average considering all markets, which is what we try to do here more often than not. Just burns me up when people think that eBay is the last word when it comes to appraising. Fact is, it's an extremely mixed bag based on way too many silly variables, such as time of day, time of year, demand (who happens to be searching for what at any given time), heat and exhilaration of the bidding process, peoples reliance on PayPal (do they have a balance, good credit, etc.) and other factors that should not necessarily affect the "value" of a given item. But it does. And they do. And yes, you will oft times witness over-inflated pricing that's great for the seller. Or not. Perfect example of NOT though is when I bundled a bunch of classic plug n' play controllers on eBay a while back and started the listing out at $.99. There was only one bid, so the damned set sold for less than a buck! Had I listed each unit out separately in a forum such as this, I would have received much fairer offers but I like to mix up my listings and spread 'em across the various markets. Less so these days with eBay though, what with all the thieves and PayPal scammers. You also can't assume that all completed listings are legit. Plenty of buyers backing out of deals. Or sellers deciding not to let go of something because they didn't get what they thought they should have.
mtshark7 #7 Posted July 19, 2011 save2600: I agree, but I just posted the ebay reference to show how much of a rip off ebay is Actually it really varies with ebay tho. You gotta 'learn' when the best time to buy is.

mtshark7 #9 Posted July 19, 2011 Why would you sell a Vectrex? Unless you have multiple consoles Everytime I have aquired one, then sold it, then bougt it back, repeat/etc.. they were always around $
Cebus Capucinis #10 Posted July 19, 2011 I'm thinking about selling mine. Working console with VecFlash cart (which is AWESOME!), great working controller, repro 3D glasses with adapter (not the color wheel but the reproduction ones made from SMS glasses), and Star Trek cart w/ overlay and manuals. It does hum a bit but it's not bad at all and the screen is in good shape. It's a blast to play but I never get the time, and the funds could go to pinball machine monies..... If your pricing is according to the above, I'll be first in line for that bad boy.
Cebus Capucinis #12 Posted July 19, 2011 I believe I paid $225 for the whole shebang, which is what I'd like for the whole setup. I'm still "considering" it, not 100% sure on a sale. I do like the Vectrex, but I'd like a pinball machine more....

I've been making my own out of sheets of colored mylar. The kind musicians do for their lighting. Not original, but they're a little darker and the effect is excellent. Cebus Capucinis #14 Posted July 19, 2011 Ooh, I'm sending you a PM with a question relating to pinball. On-topic, yep, I've played it. It's pretty cool! I think the biggest draw to the Vectrex for me is YASI, but really, when you're playing YASI on a Vectrex right next to an original '78 Space Invaders cabinet, what's the point, I'll just fire up the original....LOL!
