HatefulGravey #1 Posted July 19, 2011 From time to time I end up with a console with no power cable, or missing RF/AV cables. Where I can get these things? I know stoneage carries after market replacements for some stuff, but there has to be a place that has this stuff from the original sets. For example, I can't find Sega Genesis model 2 power supplies anywhere. Its the same power for the 32x so theres that. I need a power cable for a 2600 I repaired and I can't find one of those either. What about power for the N64? Those are odd and I never see them without the system. Where do you pick up your odds and ends type parts to complete systems? stjames88 #2 Posted July 19, 2011 I get them off amazon, but they are usually aftermarket. You could also try classicgamesource.com
HatefulGravey #3 Posted July 19, 2011 I guess I'm going to start throwing 2600s away then. I get them from time to time that need repair. I get them working and then I'm left with no power and no controllers for it. If I have to replace the power supply I'm looking at $12 and shipping. Lately I have seen folks have a hard time getting $20 for a 2600 so I would say its not worth the effort anymore. EDIT: I have a better idea, I'll start trashing the consoles and selling the power supplies. They are cheaper and easier to ship and it would seem they are the part of the console worth money. HatefulGravey #7 Posted July 19, 2011 Or offer them up here for the cost of shipping? I think I would rather throw them away them give them away. I mean, if I can't sell them because they don't have a power supply why should I give them away? If the power supply is worth $12 and shipping, and the console barely sells for $20 with it, I'm guessing the console is worth $8, that is lame as hell. Not much that complaining about it will do, but it is kind of lame. Hell, while its on my mind I'm going to start a price check thread for consoles across the board. I'm starting to wonder what people really think consoles are worth these days.

HatefulGravey #12 Posted July 19, 2011 Anyone who throws away classic consoles should be banned from AtariAge. Wow, its funny how fast people forget around here. I'm not the type to throw the stuff away, and have been the give it away person before. As a matter of fact there are several people on this forum that have gotten FREE consoles from me, with FREE shipping, and some of them have been shipped out of country. Sorry to have made that comment. Honestly, just damn. Glue some toys to the console and sell it on ebay for $50. I'm lost! That blew my mind more then a little. That just happened, and it blew my mind. http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/184207-really-ugly-use-of-atari-stuff/ That is simply terrible. Nasty nasty stuff. To try and get back on track... /cough/ I get my typical wall warts at thrift stores, flea markets, and yard sales usually. Sometimes the Pawn Shop will have what I need. That's why I started http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/184970-the-complete-list-of-power-supplies/page__p__2326913__fromsearch__1#entry2326913. It may take around a month to find the right one but I do find it. That is by no means the fastest way, but it is the cheapest. $1-3. I frequent them weekly so it's not like I am going in there trying to find a PS. I have my little set of working systems now (15 I think?) that I can use the GOOD stuff from mine to test the others. I also pick up any game cords I find with unusual connectors, even if they are RF. NES, 2600, SMS, ect, RF's stay on the shelf though. If you are needing a fix right away, Amazon or eBay is your best bet. Although if you are trying to make money or break even on a console, this is not the place to go for power supplies. If you are needing an A/V cord and it has an unusual connector (Like the Sega Saturn or Dreamcast)) you can get RF cords dirt cheap off of eBay and break out the soldering gun to give you the wire you need. I just picked up a Dreamcast RF cord for $2.25 with free shipping TODAY from eBay. Typically, the are $5. In short, I find my PS's used, and I will make my A/V's out of parts if need be. The A/V cord I have coming out of my C64 you can't get in the stores B
HatefulGravey #15 Posted July 19, 2011 Its just frustrating. I picked up a "broken" heavy sixer in a thirft store. I thought if nothing else I saved the shell from the can. I fixed the console, just needed some TLC, and now I have it with no power supply. I don't need another 2600 and I don't want to sell it without one. I just think its an odd thing to do. I wouldn't want to buy a console without the needed parts so selling it that way would suck to me too. So I was hoping for an affordable way to get these parts so that I wouldn't have to eat a loss just to move the surplus. I don't collect to make money, so I'm not trying to get rich, I'm trying to be reasonable and pass down things I find locally really. Well, it looks like the prices I'm finding are the most reasonable on the net. Thanks for the help guys, sorry for the misunderstanding, back to the gaming. I have a harmony cart and a bunch of Sega Cd stuff waiting for me at home, I'm going to get to it.

tz101 #17 Posted July 19, 2011 (edited) Try Atari2600.com, 4jays.net, and Best Electronics for starters. At the local level, hit the spare cords bin at Goodwill and Salvation Army stores. I have found some Sega and Atari branded power adapters, along with various RFU and composite cords in these bins. Normally for around $1-$2 a piece. Additionally, it is helpful to know which power adapters are interchangeable. I have found that Jaguar, Sega Master System, Sega Genesis, and Sega CD consoles all have identical voltage requirements along with pin size and polarity (critical). Also, I bought an Intellivision II console on ebay that came without a power supply. Again, a Sega Genesis DC adapter came to the rescue. I have heard that NES can be powered with a Sega or Jaguar adapter as well. Just be careful and do not use the original NES AC adapter on any system needing DC current (basically anything else) as it will damage the electronics inside. Also, as far as AV cables, be aware that 2600, INTV, Colecovision, and 7800 use the same RFU cable. SNES, N64, and Gamecube all use the exact same AC cable as well. Hope this is helpful. I have a harmony cart and a bunch of Sega Cd stuff waiting for me at home, I'm going to get to it. Most of my systems didn't have a power cord when they I got them. I am totally ok with getting a 2600 without a power supply, I can just swap with the ones I have. And when it's a console that I don't have already, I just go hunting at thrift stores and flea markets first, than here at AA, then fleabay, and then Craigsl!st.
