S1500 #1 Posted July 27, 2011 Are educational games, ie ones that teach no longer made for consoles? And if so, when did they die out? Sure, plenty of kid-friendly games on the Wii, I mean ones that actually teach you stuff. Of course I can't imagine an educational game on a PS3. I just can't. All that rendering hardware to have Boppy the Turtle teaching you how to count numbers in NumberVille. Or a cel-shaded Number Muncher NOW WITH EXTREME [email protected]#[email protected]#@! jhd #3 Posted July 27, 2011 I've seen pictures of a few educational titles for the original PlayStation released in the UK -- aimed at the elementary school level. These were not official, licensed titles. Apparently the business model was to sell them to schools as a PSX + TV was supposedly cheaper to buy than an actual computer. There is also the PS 2 title Chessmaster, which is supposedly able to teach someome to play (better) chess, if that counts as an "educational" title. +HammR25 #4 Posted July 28, 2011 Looks like on the 360 titles have gone directly to XBLA instead of disc releases. Some of the Indie titles are considered educational as well.
Video #5 Posted August 6, 2011 Outside of kiddie "consoles" I don't know of any modern games. Something I want to know is what the hell happened to the typing tutor programs? I'd love to get a modern one of those to up my speed a bit...but as near as I can tell, they don't exist anymore.
Vic George 2K3 #6 Posted August 7, 2011 There are still typing tutor programs, mostly for PCs, if you like Mavis Beacon.
Eltigro #7 Posted August 9, 2011 Don't know if you consider it "console" enough, but there are some language programs and stuff on the DSi Shop for the Nintendo DS.
+atari2600land #8 Posted August 9, 2011 I thought I saw an Elmo game and a Cookie Monster game for the DS. Or does it not teach anything?
+atari2600land #9 Posted August 9, 2011 Somebody needs to make a Mathnet game. Nooo! That was my least favorite part of Square 1! What they should do is make a game based on Math-Man and Glitch. At least it was video game related to start with.

AtariLeaf #12 Posted August 12, 2011 Speaking of educational games, I used to love the Carmen Sandiego series. I first played it on my Coco and yes it was educational but it was also a lot of fun. I have a version on the SMS and just picked up the "Where in Time" version on the NES.
MCHufnagel #13 Posted August 16, 2011 Educational games don't sell in very high numbers. Thus making it virtually immpossible to make a profit on console versions. These games are cheaper to develop on the pc and that platform is a much better fit for young kids anyway.
