Looking for some info on a strange PS1 kiosk (pics inside)

Recommended Posts

I came across this beauty last weekend from a guy who said he bought it from a K-Mart that was closing. After some looking around on the internet, I can't seem to find any pics or information on it. So, either i suck at googling, or info on this thing seems pretty scarce. I'm looking for any information people might have on this, be it rarity, price, if I'm missing pieces (besides the obvious system/monitor), or anything else. Thanks! :)

The screen and controllers are very low to the ground, the controllers come up to about my knees...

It looks as though something may have been attached to the top at some point?

I'm pretty sure I saw one of those as a counter display in an EB Games around 2003-2004.

Isn't this a PS2 kiosk since it has Gran Turismo 3 displayed at the bottom?

I was confused by this as well, but after testing it out with an actual system, there's no doubt it's for the PS1

The controllers were not at knee level when this was in stores. It sat on a counter top or some kind of base stand.

It's part of a Funcoland reusable unit. Not sure if they used these in Kmarts as well, but they were most certainly used in Funcolands. They didn't just use them for Playstation. They had single and triple units that you could load with whatever popular system you wanted to advertise. Almost every Funcoland in America has some around 1996 - their take over by EB in early 2000s.

Ah, very cool, thank you! :D

Any idea on what the value of something like this would be?

Around $100. Someone in Florida had one listed for many many months trying to sell it for around a hundred on ePay. It eventually went for around $66 IIRC. The problem is shipping when it comes to eBay. I've seen the three way units offered from $300 - $1000 online, and know of one offered locally for $250 here in Tennessee.

Not bad, not bad. So do these have an official name then? I can't seem to find any pics or anything about them anywhere on the internet... I mean I know you just told me everything I wanted to know about it, but I'm just curious as to what it would actually be called. Thanks!
