LynxVGL #1 Posted August 12, 2011 (edited) Just go my loose copy of Defender in the mail and through it in my CV. Another above average Arcade port by Atarisoft BUT.... since I got mine loose with no manual, silly question: Is Hyperspace implemented in this version? I can't seem to get it to work with any keypad press. Do you have to fly beneath the landscape ala the 2600 version of the smartbomb? Admittedly this was on my first play through (bout a half hour) and I do know that my SAC controller is a little wonky. I'm going to try it with a standard CV controller after I mow the lawn (groan) but it also seems there is a weird lag thing happening when I change direction (left to right and right to left) and the player ship doesn't seem to want to thrust until the screen updates the postion. This has been a great summer for me to pick up loose titles to add to my collection. Started with the standard loose ones (DK, Turbo and SAC Baseball) and my copies of Moonsweeper and Nova Blast that I lost the boxes for eons ago. After 3 months of avid eBay raiding, I'm up to 17 loose carts really nicely rounding out my collection. As per usual, thanks for the info folks. Ikrananka #2 Posted August 12, 2011 For the manual goto www.digitpress.com, then Library > Manuals > ColecoVision > Defender In answer to your questions: Hyperspace = 0 key on keypad Smart Bomb = Right fire button Probably doesn't work right with a SAC although I haven't tried myself - I just play Defender with the standard CV controller. Wow. Thanks for the great link too!
Pixelboy #4 Posted February 2, 2014 Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I just tried my Defender cartridge (for the purposes of my trading card project) and it seems I fire both lasers and smart bombs at the same time with the left fire button, which leads me to loose all my smart bombs in mere seconds. Did anyone else encounter this problem? Do I have an ellusive defective cart? I'm playing on a regular CV console. EDIT: I just tried nanochess' Adam-patched Defender ROM on my console via my AtariMax SD cart, and the buttons work correctly.
NIAD #5 Posted February 2, 2014 Just tested some rom files of Defender with BlueMSX and the: Left Fire = shoot laser Right Fire = smart bomb 0 = hyperspace When I get a chance to test on a real CV, I'll let you know what I find.
phattyboombatty #6 Posted February 3, 2014 Great game. One of the greatest in my collection to be sure! I've had trouble with fire buttons using certain controllers... there definitely are some bugs that occur in the game while using non-standard controllers (not that you were using one Luc), just can't remember which ones at the moment. I use my self-refurbished Super Action Controller, and it is the delight of my game playing! Defender is one of those games (like almost ALL Williams games) that was uber-challenging for me as a 10 year-old kid. I used to watch all the teenagers play with its 4-button control, and man did it ever elude my skills! I sit down with Atarisoft Defender on my ColecoVision almost every time I can have a sit-down to play, and I enjoy the heck out of it!
