DemonoidTentacle #1 Posted August 16, 2011 Anyone else have a power adaptor that gets freakin' hot? Mine is plugged in for about 2 minutes and it starts to really heat up. Any way to fix, or don't bother and just replace?
SlowCoder #2 Posted August 16, 2011 Anyone else have a power adaptor that gets freakin' hot? Mine is plugged in for about 2 minutes and it starts to really heat up. Any way to fix, or don't bother and just replace? Can you tell a little about the adapter? Is it rated at 9v 500mah? Is it an original Atari branded supply? Is it a cheaper model? Could be your supply is failing. Or something in your Atari is pulling too much power. Maybe a short?
DemonoidTentacle #3 Posted August 16, 2011 It's not an official Atari power adaptor by the looks of it. It's for an Australian socket. It reads, PRI: 230 - 240V 50Hz. SEC: 12VAC 10VA. I recon I'll try and track down another one.
+boxpressed #4 Posted August 16, 2011 Anyone else have a power adaptor that gets freakin' hot? Mine is plugged in for about 2 minutes and it starts to really heat up. Any way to fix, or don't bother and just replace? I was wondering about the safety of keeping my 30+ year old 2600 power supply plugged in all the time. It's one of the gray ones, not the very first gray ones, though. It doesn't get hot, but I'm a little more wary of it than I am of newer power supplies for other electronics. I don't know much about how these are made, but should I be unplugging the 2600 when I'm not using it?

Anything that has a massive box on the power cable I just do not trust.
AtariLeaf #7 Posted August 16, 2011 Hey, my adoptor isn't getting hot anymore! Well that's good. I would have suspected menopause as the culprit.
