THE OFFICIAL ATARI 2600 HEAVY 6-SWITCH LIST

Recommended Posts

Just in from the Goodwill! Not bad for 15 bucks! Original AC, paddles, and sticks! Anyone know how to fix the old Atari sticks? I love the feel of the fire button, but one doesn't read up and down and the other doesn't read any direction but right. I had no idea it was a Sunnyvale till it showed up in the mail today! So stoked!

Just an update ('cause some of this has changed since I posted my unit up here):

Sears Tele Games Video Arcade model 637.99743

Serial 98611R

MFD in Sunnyvale in 1977

Owned by shadow 460

No A/B channel switch, and no hole for one

Unit functions perfectly

Repairs:

All boards reflowed

Major ICs are socketed

Reset switch now has a metal piece through the core

Major ICs were replaced with those from a Woody, both units are functional

Unit has a green cart slot

Previous owner was Combat16

Unit is pictured on Wikipedia's Atari VCS page

It also has the sticker that says there's nothing in there for me to repair. :ponder:

One of these days I might consider a fat Vader mod...

NTSC/PAL/Sears/Special: NTSC

So, I cruised eBay looking for a set of paddles to give to my sister as well as a couple of spare joysticks to have around. Knowing what can go unnoticed on eBay due to mislabeling, I just searched 'Atari' and found this auction: eBay Auction -- Item Number: 17097779322671?ff3=2&pub=5574883395&toolid=10001&campid=5336500554&customid=&item=1709777932267&mpt=[CACHEBUSTER] . For $80 shipped ($50 +$30shipping), I got a lot more than what was advertised. 5 sealed games were advertised, but 10 sealed games were actually shipped. Air-Sea Battle, Surround, and Indy 500 were shown in the picture, but perfect gatefold boxes and original numbered carts were included, all with their manuals and copies of the first catalog.

The eight games shown in the caddy ended up shipping with their original manuals. The joysticks are interesting. From the pictures, I wondered if they'd be CX-10s. They aren't... They have plugs that say 'AMP,' look and feel like the CX-40s, but are much more responsive. My guess is that they're just really good after-market sticks (I'm actually preferring them to any traditional CX-40 I've used). The innards look identical to the revision 1 CX-40 board, though. They are stamped "Made in Mexico." The two sets of paddles and set of driving controllers are the original iterations with the Atari logo (no surprise there, as they were shown in the pictures).

I snapped a shot of the inside of the console. It looks to have been made in the 34th week of 1977...I think..sometimes, I have hard time following how to date these. The console had never been opened, and I've never seen a heavy sixer in such nice condition (in person). It may not have been the BEST bargain around, but I am very pleased with the lot!

So, am I supposed to update the spreadsheet and attach it to this post? I'm not entirely certain.

As of right now 11 -- I just bought another... 53683G

I had 12 but recently sold one... and the one listed above will probably go also because after opening it I don't see anything particularly different or unusual... just going to take all the pictures and pass it on... have you seen the research thread?

Scored a major pickup during Thanksgiving weekend in Sacramento. I'd seen this guy's Craigslist ad over a month before while visiting up there, so I feel lucky that I was able to make this purchase!

Serial # (Ex: #54035V or #007649): 45183G

MFG Location (Sunnyvale, Taiwan): Sunnyvale

(Owner/AA Member), (Location= City, State, Country): David Meek, OKC, OK, USA

A/B Channel Slot (Yes/No): No

A/B Channel Switch (Yes/No): No

Notes: I am the second owner of this system. The first owner hardly ever used it when he

originally bought it. Included was all the original manuals and warranty cards and other

correspondance. The Atari works flawlessly and there have been no modifications to it.

It had been sitting in the owners house unused for years sitting safe inside of an Atari

Game Center. Also included wih the system was about 30 games all with the manuals

included. Both the original owner, who has since died, as well as myself, have taken

great care to keep this Atari in great shape. Although I play it quite a bit when I'm bored.
