I can't say I've spent a heck of a lot of time with lightgun games, but....

I had a lot of fun with the Sega Saturn, and it's that system that I've played the most lightgun games with. Virtua Cop, Virtua Cop 2, and House of the Dead, mostly. Also some cross-platform ones like Area 51, Maximum Force, and Crypt Killer. I had the most fun during the Saturn era.

I later got Point Blank, Point Blank 2, Point Blank 3 on the Playstation, and they're fun, too. I have another PS1 light gun (Guncon) came and I can't remember the name and I've never played it. I have a couple (and Guncon2) for PS2 (forgetting titles now) and I've never played them, either.

Saturn was a lot of fun.

Dreamcast House of the Dead 2 was another I played, with the "rumble pack" in the gun it simulates recoil and it's fun, and kids really got a kick out of the "recoil."

I haven't tried any of the newer systems, and don't even know which gun works with House of the Dead 3 on Xbox, or where to get it. It seems kind of extravagant to get Xbox gun for just one game, but I still wonder if it's excellent? Anybody?

Yes definitely the Saturn for me as well. Although like wood_jl I haven't played a lot of light gun games. The recoiled action of the Dreamcast light gun sounds pretty cool. I wil have to check that out.

Sega Phaser and Master System. Definitely my favorite console for light gun games because there are a bunch of great titles. Rescue Mission is one of my favorite light gun games of all time.

It's a tough setup to manage, but dual PS2 systems linked over firewire running Time Crisis 2, 3, or Vampire Night. Supports multiplayer with a screen for each player making it a ton better than split screen. This is one of the major reasons I have 2 27" crt tvs in my console room.

If you go with a region free PS2, you can get a number of great exclusives including a version of Police 911 that works with the Konami Watch Eye camera to simulate the arcade movement tracking and the Gunvari collection which has all 3 Point Blank games upgraded to work with the Guncon 2.

If you add in the PS1 compatibility, the collection of games increases even further with classics like Elemental Gearbolt.

I'm missing just a couple of exclusive PS1 games, but have all of the PS2 gun games released in all 3 regions and all of the PS1 gun games released in the US.

I'm weird..

I actually like my 3DO and lightgun.

Shooting breakdancing zombies (that's what my wife calls them)..

Just fun..

Never noticed a problem with sensitivity/accuracy, but then again, I'm not that good.. ;-)

As far as console/gun combo I'd say very little beats the Wii. Excellent accuracy on that thing. A friend of mine has PS Move and he says the Wii actually seems to track faster and better in a lightgun game.

I just posted this info about the SNES Super Scope, it might be a handy warning to anyone getting into lightgun gaming. However, despite the color issue, the Super Scope is a good device, very accurate (when used with old CRT TV).

The best part of the CD-i peacekeeper, is that it, can be used with lcd tv's. Because it uses a special receiver instead of timing the electronbeam used with most lightgun's.

The wii-mote uses kind of the same technique. More info can be found here: peacekeeper

Nintendo Wii. You've got House of the Dead 2, 3, and Overkill, there's Dead Space, two Resident Evil shooters that're fun, hybrid stuff like Red Steel 2, and even a SNES emulator for Battleclash and crap.

I can't believe I forgot this when I posted earlier, but the SNES M.A.C.S. setup is amazing to use as well. I can't really call it a game, though if you enjoy rifle shooting I can see where it can be a great tool to teach/practice the fundamentals of proper technique. I don't dig it out too often, but I always enjoy messing with it when I do.

It did not however, work well with my Plasma screen. Haven't tried it with an LCD yet but plasma had the cursor jumping all over the place. Thought my mirror above the couch was to blame, but nope. Took that down and it was still unplayable. Had to go back to CRT.

I enjoy lightgunning on the 7800 (alien brigade & crossbow) as well, but with the FMV on the CD-i and its great gun titles, I'd say that's my all time favorite system to shoot on. Mad Dog, Crime Patrol and Who Shot Johnny Rock are all good.

No doubt the NES lightgun games are a lot of fun as well. Hogans Alley and Duck Hunt will forever be timeless classics. SMS and Saturn also had a handful of great shooters. Virtua Cop was probably my fav on the Saturn.

Did Battle Clash come out for Virtual Console? I can't find any such listing. Or are you going via Homebrew Channel?

Is Battle Clash any good? I have an original SNES plus Super Scope so I can play the original hardware, just never thought Battle Clash looked any good so I didn't bother.

I'm using a homebrew emulator. The game is pretty awesome, definitely worth a try if you can play it for cheap. It's like.. a lightgun version of Teleroboxer from the Virtual Boy.

The PS1 and 2 have some great light gun games. For the PS1, two guns which I like are the Guncon and its version of the Konami Justifier. I find the Guncon is more accurate, but the Justifier can be used to play some games which the Guncon cannot (and it's really not bad at all).

My first instinct and best reaction is to agree with wood_jl, the Saturn's light guns are absolutely amazing in terms of both accuracy, weight, spring-back on the trigger and so on. And Virtua Cop is possibly my favorite light-gun game of all time, plus you've got Virtua Cop 2, House of the Dead and Area 51.

But then Rex Dart makes his post, and I agree that the Wii is pretty great for gun games too. Due to space constraints with my TV size I'm not super excited about the accuracy. But that being said I LOVE the Gunblade NY / LA Machine Guns arcade pack that flew completely under the radar. Rayman Raving Rabbids is a really fun light gun shooter, and the House of the Dead 2 & 3 pack is great too. Hell, Link's Crossbow Training isn't half bad either. Now if someone would just release a Virtua Cop 1,2 and 3 pack...

I definitely love the SMS and Light Phaser combo. Most of the games for it are well done, especially Rescue Mission and Gangster Town. It's crazy how there is even a 3D glasses game that uses it (Missile Defense 3D).

I also love the Super Scope. Not the most lightweight gun, but it's accurate and the Battleclash/Metal Combat games, as well as a pretty cool pack in that even has Tetris style games make it worthwhile.

I also have the Saturn gun and love it, but I have only one game that uses it, Virtua Cop (love it, though).

i think i was the only person to preorder it.

Link's Crossbow Training isn't half bad either.

links crossbow trainer is fun as hell but way too short - ranger missions are very cool.

Interesting item about the Super Scope: it definitely works on NiMH batteries. I charged up six NiMH AA's for my new Scope and it definitely works just fine so there's a handy tip for anyone put off by how much the Super Scope sucks batteries.

Well, the system with the largest number of decent games might be the SMS, but I really love HoTD 2 on the Dreamcast. It's the one game my nephews want to play everytime they come over.

My absolute favorite is the Master System with Safari Hunt, Marksman Shooting and Trap Shooting, and Missile Defense 3D. Secondarily to that is the Saturn with Virtua Cop 1 +2 and the Dreamcast with House of the Dead. NES and Genesis shooters are third tier to these for me, and I don't even own a Playstation light gun. I might have to fix that in the future though.

realize that for real light guns, you need a CRT due to how the technology works. you can't use modern HDTVs such as LCD, plasma, DLP, etc. the only solutions are to keep a CRT around for light gun games or to buy an IR based gun (still called "light guns" even though they're a different technology).

once you figure that, you have some nice options.

you can get a modded Xbox1 for $30 and load up on the emulators and play tons of light gun games. There's MAME, Atari, Sega Master System, NES, SNES, etc. there are a ton of emulators for the Xbox1. As long as the emulator has light gun support, you're good to go. Light guns for the Xbox1 are $10-30. But if you have to buy an IR-based gun to play with a modern non-CRT TV, the price goes up big time.

You can also buy light guns for the PC and use emulators.

If you want light gun games in a modern current gen console system, there's the Cabela games for the 360, Wii, and the PS3 and they use the IR gun. There's the Playstation Move for the PS3 which has "light gun" style games. The Wii's IR technology actually works better for lightgun games than the Move but a Wii isn't as good for other games as the PS3. There are some light gun style games for the 360 through the Kinect such as Child of Eden, The Gunstringer, etc.
