SIO2PC and Linux

Does anyone here use an SIO2PC with Linux? Does it work with any of the linux distros? I see that Atarimax sells them with software for various forms of Microsoft Windows, but my wife an I use Debian Linux and Xubuntu Linux on our computers at home. Thanks for any input on this.

Of course there's SIO2PC for Linux! Just be sure you don't buy the USB version of SIO2PC from AtariMax, this device is strictly Windows only.

 

If you have a RS232 port in your PC just buy a serial SIO2PC interface and use AtariSIO, available from my website

If you don't have a RS232 port, get the serial SIO2PC interface plus a FTDI based USB-serial converter (don't buy the crappy Prolific based converters, you won't have much luck with them), and use AspeQt

BTW: AspeQt also supports using the AtariSIO kernel driver as a backend, if you have a RS232 port but prefer a graphical user interface.

I may add that using ATARISio is almost essential. If oyu do not use it, Aspeqt polls teh seriell port. At least i think it does as my PC's clocks goest straight to max speed although I didn't do anything with the Atari. When using the AtariSio-module it stays at the lowest speed when the Atari i snot accessing the "PC-SIO".

I have an "old" Fedora install on my "always-on"-box. To use the AtariSio-driver i had to do two thing smanually which weren't mentioned anywhere (I looked). I try to rememer them and post here if someone needs the info.

Has anyone tried this with Mint 13? How well does it work? I'm still somewhat of a Linux neophyte, but I'm trying to find Linux alternatives to all my Windows programs

How well would you make out trying to type in German? We would probably get more laughs from that, english isn't everyone's primary language.

Drac030's SIO2BSD is another good disk emulator (for Linux, Mac OSX, and FreeBSD).

 

Fewer features than the others but it's very compact.

This device is a USB SIO2PC (FTDI based), can also double as a 10502PC, has an enclosure and works with Aspeqt under Linux: http://www.atariage....ng-information/ PM me if you are interested. I dont have any available right now but i will be doing more of them in the near future...

Thanks for all the input. I'm going to try getting mine to work later this week when I have some time off (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday).
