Ultima VII help

Recommended Posts

gdement,

McDonnells and stealing food is your friend in U2 :)

You'll never go hungry again - I promise!

I do that in U5. At the start of the game I go to the little farm towns around the castle and steal food form the fields until I get 9999 food. then I do the honesty quest and donate money to the poor and all that and get my virtue back up to normal. It's cheaper than buying food that's for sure.

There's also a Gameboy Color game that I haven't snagged just yet (but will). :)

The homebrew port of Ultima 3, you mean?

I helped beta test that for Sven - he created a completely new game from the engine which was insanely difficult (for me anyway) - You need to be a math major to solve the new quests he put into it.

Works well with a GB emulator - couldnt get it to work on my kids GB with a memory cart, but I was prob doing something wrong.

Ok, so now you guys have gone and done it. For the past few days the itch to play Ultima anything has become a fever, with the prescription being Ultima VII with Exult, and Ultima IV with XU4.

I know that GOG has just released Ultima IV for free, but I mean, come on, I'm sure everyone who has posted to this thread has it. It's been freely available from any of the "Ultima Dragons" for awhile. For anyone that has not played it yet, or is thinking of going back, forget the DosBox GOG build, and grab XU4 and the graphics upgrade pack. XU4 will allow you to run it on newer OS's at the correct speed, and with welcome enhancements.

As for Ultima VII, I'm sort of curious if GOG will do it right. GOG sort of has am ongoing problem when it comes to games with addons. The most recent example is Populous, which they just released, it does not include Promised Lands. Another example would be Sid Meiers Centauri Alliance also not including the Crossfire addon. Basically, I have a feeling that they'll release Ultima VII with Part 1 and 2, but without FoV and SS - which would be a crime.

In any case, I've already got this covered anyway - so not my problem. I will recommend for Zombiecraig, or anybody, that if you bust out Ultima VII to forget about DosBox and grab Exult. Like XU4, it allows you to play the game on modern OS's at its intended speed with load of nice graphical enhancements. The game looks awesome at 1080 on my HDTV.

Yes XU4 and Exult is great! I prefer to support GOG in this so I'm buying them anyway. I think they will run into problems with Ultima 7.

This guys graphic upgrades are excellent in combination with DOSBOX.

I tried Martian Dreams once, that game was just bizarre, I couldn't get into it for some reason. Should I give it another try?

I'm planning to some day.

Back when I played it, I had never played a PC RPG any newer than Ultima 3, and after that I had been playing NES RPGs. So I had this crazy idea in my head that if I could pick something up, I obviously should.

I littered the contents of an entire Martian town in a 3 screen radius around the landing site. Other than that accomplishment I never got far into the game.
