Chuck Gill #1 Posted January 5, 2003 I got tired of trying to use the loose paddles to play Marble Craze, so I made a controller. It makes the game much more intuitive. The red button on top is the paddle 0 trigger for starting and pausing. Everybody should make one, Paul's game deserves it's own controller. -Chuck

Rob Mitchell #3 Posted January 5, 2003 That is nice! How heavy is your unit? Do you find that your hands are close together? My controller setup is a big plastic box with velcro ties for the two paddles on the right and front. My hands are about 8" apart which feels good to me. MaxSpeed #4 Posted January 5, 2003 That is so Sweet ! Do you hold it or keep it grounded ?
Chuck Gill #5 Posted January 5, 2003 @Rob, I've been playing with the controller sitting on the floor. It's a 4 x 6 inch box so my hands are about as far apart as they would be with a playstation controller. It doesn't weigh much at all, just a little more plastic than a pair of paddles. -Chuck
Snider-man #6 Posted January 5, 2003 Now THAT is just about the niftiest thing I've seen in a while! First a special foot pedal for Thrust and now this! Looks like we may soon see a homebrew release that uses its own custom made controller! Oh, and.... How heavy is your unit? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! SS #7 Posted January 5, 2003 Oh, and.... How heavy is your unit? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Oh good lord! Moderators, Quick! PLEASE block NE146 from posting to this thread! I’m begging you!
Paul Slocum #8 Posted January 5, 2003 Hehe. That rocks, Chuck! That paddle setup maybe has potential for future homebrews. A Xevios-like game might be cool, or a 3D Kaboom kinda like Wallball. -Paul
Albert #9 Posted January 5, 2003 That is a very cool controller you've put together there. How can I get a batch of them to sell in our store? Or possibly bundle together with Marble Craze? Heck, how do I get one for myself?? ..Al

Chuck Gill #12 Posted January 6, 2003 Thanks everyone! The first one was made from some paddles that had a cracked housing and a plastic project box. I wouldn't mind making more if I can find some reasonably priced boxes, cables, pots and knobs. I hate to destroy a pair of paddles for the knobs, pots, and cable for each one. If anyone would like to make their own it's actually fairly easy, way easier than modifying a Pac-man cart to take an eprom. Plus it's well worth the trouble. -Chuck
Cupcakus #13 Posted January 6, 2003 I can supply you with pots and arcade spinners... if ya need them.
Rob Mitchell #14 Posted January 6, 2003 I know where you can get new 9 wire extension cables for $2 each. You can either put a DB9 female socket on the back .. or hack the cable .. Rob Mitchell, Atlanta, GA
