I can't believe this happened to me!

Recommended Posts

Ok, I'm having the game of my LIFE in Berzerk. My highscore previous to this game was 26830 points. I've been playing for about 45 minutes, early on at around 4000 point I've died a punch of times and don't have any lives left, but I keep getting lucky, I'l die right as the point roles over another 1000 point and I get another life, well this continues until the 20,000 and then I just start clearing rooms like mad, and I'm doing great.

I clear 30,000!!! Yes never seen that before!

I clear 40,000!!! I've got 6 lives and I'm feeling good.

I clear 50,000!!! Beginning to wish I had taped this because this is a bit unreal.

So where near 50,600ish point I sneeze, and not realizing my foot is near the power cord, I managed to yank the power cord out of my 2600 :x I had over 6 lives and I was doing great, and the worst part . . . I didn't even get a screen shot of it

I had something like this happen to me when I was young. Can't remember the game, but the power went out when I was having my best game ever. I also remember one time having the game of my life (can't remember which game again) and my parents said it was time for dinner. Definitely needed pause back then.

Isn't there a pause button modification for the 2600? I kind of remember reading about it in early 2010 . . .

Yes there was a pause button mod and even some controller mods. In future use a wireless controller. Atari had some official ones made back then. Then sit on the couch and play away from the 2600 so no knocking out the power cord.

Actually I was playing on a 2600 that I've taken apart and I'm getting ready to install into an arcade cabinet, I was testing the new switches I had solder in and decided to play a single round of Berzerk before going to be d. . . didn't expect it to last as long as it did and get as far as i did. I have a 6-Switch that I'm going to be using in the future.

I've had power outages before that killed amazing games. Ironically when I had my amazing random run (that I should have recorded) on Quadrun, the first though that came to mind was, oh please don't let the power go out. XD

I scored 185K on Quadrun. Its posted on the Retrocade magazine forums. :)

But yes... that stinks. A nice tip, if you're going after a record run, put the console and the tv on a UPS. This was needed in my old apartment in Youngwood, due to the power flickering on and off for a couple seconds, about every other day.

I actually have a UPS on for my DSL Modem and Wireless router so I never lose internet access . . . no I don't have a problem , but yeah your right, I need to get another one for when I go for record runs, I wasn't expecting my run last night to be so good so I didn't think about recording it. Honestly I'm glad I did pull the power, even if it was a great game, I don't think I would have gone to bed and I had to get up at 6:30 this morning, so in a screwed up way it was a blessing.

Ouch...

Yea I know what it's like to get addicted to Berzerk. I remember I was waiting for a YouTube video to load, so I popped in Berzerk for a quick run while waiting...

...four hours later, man... four hours later the game finally ended.

You be careful with that game. With Berzerk, there is no quick test play. You play until you're done!

I'll say this, I'm going to start recording on my Mac every run I do, because I don't know if it will be a record run for me or not. I'm half thinking about trying to go after the record on TwinGalaxies, all those scores in the 100,000s, that I think I could do now, but the couple in the 400,000 and that one that peaked over 1,000,000, I think I could get to that point, but it would take a while.

Aye.

If you're going for a record, find a way to combat this glitch: http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/183006-berzerk-reset-bug/

Someone managed to break a million? I wonder how they kept the game running for that long...

I had a game quit on me the other night and I couldn't figure it out, so if you stop moving at all, you start that timer? Well that certainly changes that aspect of the game, which I think I know how to combat that, but it definitely adds to the challenge of it!

Thanks for letting me know about that glitch!

The real problem is you're supposed to be play testing Frantic ;-)

Hey I did test latest build of Frantic last night, you can check my post . . . just not nearly as long as I did Berzerk :D !

Pics or it didn't happen.

Tonight I recorded every game I started and this was my last and final game I did!

There's your picture :D!!! I actually hit the glitch ya'll were talking about, I was losing a life for about every 4 ~ 6 I received, though I think between 75K and 88K I didn't lose a single life. This was my single best run in a video game I have ever done on the 2600!!!
