Tickled_Pink #1 Posted August 31, 2011 I was just browsing the old-computers.com site and came across a very short entry on the Atari 4160STe. Apparently it was a normal STe that had been upgraded to 4Mb and given to developers. They are marked 4160STe on the top logo/label. I realised that I had one of these. It was given to me about 5 years ago but I'd assumed that someone had just bought a label from eBay and stuck it on. Is there any way to tell if it a genuine developer's system? mimo #2 Posted August 31, 2011 I don't think there is, unless the serial number lable has some clues. I know that I have had 3 4160STE's as I bought the label from Best Electronics and did the upgrade myself
+orpheuswaking #3 Posted August 31, 2011 I have one but it don't got no steeenkin badge for it, oh wait, that's just an upgraded 1040STe
Shredder11 #4 Posted August 31, 2011 I too own three 4160STE micros complete with authentic metal badges, but I doubt they are developer models. Perhaps the developer ones had hard drives full of special software?
tjlazer #5 Posted September 4, 2011 (edited) There is probably no way to tell as they were most likely simply 520/1040STE machines upgraded to 4MB and the label slapped on... Unless yours is very old and dusty and sell used from the late 1980's Edited September 4, 2011 by tjlazer
Shredder11 #6 Posted September 4, 2011 Without checking properly (it's late ya know!), I would say mine are 1990 to 1991. So like I say, I doubt mine are rare and authentic.
