MrTibbers #1 Posted August 31, 2011 I just recently got a hold of a TON of C64/128 stuff. 8 boxes full of diss and games, 10 atari, C64/128, disk drives... just a ton of stuff. I was going through the boxes of software and there are some games that say ""Alpha Build "Fisher Price"" and so on. A lot of the stuff is a label with just writing on it. I cant tell what is real or pirated (I dont know if people did that back then) let me know to help me sort things out. Ill have some pictures later if anyone wants to see some of the things I'm talking about
+Psionic #2 Posted August 31, 2011 Are they cartridges or disks? If they're cartridges, it's highly unlikely that they're pirates. If they're disks, most likely they are.
Mayhem #3 Posted September 1, 2011 Prototypes do exist for the C64, but labels can (and do) fall off and so people would put their own on to know what the game is.

I also have a ton of games where all the labels look exactly the same, but the name of the game is different. the label was printed, not hand written. they were games like "Contra" "Gauntlet I" "Gauntlet II" "Ikari Warriors" and so on. one of them says exactly.... GAMES/SINGLE 215 L5 ROAD WAR 2000 LOAD * ,8,1 the other side is the same except its a different game GAMES/SINGLES 214 L4 SPEED RUMBLER LOAD * ,8,1 I'm new to the who C64 stuff, but its really interesting to me. I'm going to try and get one hooked up and running soon. All together I got C64 x5 C128 x2 Atari 520STM Atari 1040ST Atari 1200XL. I got a lot of Amiga software but I don't seem to have gotten an Amiga system... The disk drives I have are Atari SF314 Atari SF354 2x Atari 1050 Commodore 1571 x3 Commodore 1541 x3 and 2 different cassette drives.
desiv #6 Posted September 1, 2011 Lots of us printed our own labels for some of these games back in the day tho... I even wrote a program that would read the disk directory and setup a list of files (games) on it; let me edit the list (to remove stuff that wasn't games) and print a piece of paper with that info on it and fold/cut lines so I could make disk jackets with the name of the programs on them. (I was even working on an upside down font so it could print on the backside of the jacket and have it display rightside up.., but I don't remember getting that far and finishing that part..) If they are floppies, it much more likely its just "backups." But could be.. desiv

It looks like you got a nice haul, even if there's no betas or other ultra-rare stuff.

It looks like you got a nice haul, even if there's no betas or other ultra-rare stuff. yeah, it is really nice. I got over 300 games I'm 100% are real. about 20 boxed games or so. I don't really like the idea of the fake games though, I like to have the real thing. with this "lot" I've gotten, it's definitely inspired me to collect. I can't wait to find more boxed or even loose real games. Both of my C128 have memory problems it seems, but I got a C64 working perfectly. I don't even know if there is a reason to get the C128 to work since I have read that most things run in C64 mode anyways on the C128. If anyone knows any good places to get big lots of C64 and Atari computers games, let me know. thanks!

LocalH #12 Posted September 2, 2011 I don't have originals to trade, I'm just wanting to look through that collection of cracked games. Any demoscene stuff in there? I doubt it is, but those printed labels sound awfully close to my old collection from back in the day (which had been passed to me from my uncle, and which I sold for about $75 as a whole, including a C128, 1541-II, 1571, and Super Snapshot v1 cartridge), and I was thinking that it might have been traded through multiple hands until it ended up with the people you got the stuff from. Might you post a picture of one of the labels? Where (in a general sense) are you located? The only reason I ask is because my old collection had a few demoscene prods that I have been unable to find on the net to this day, and I would love to find them again. I am in Chantilly VA. it looks like these games came from somewhere in PA. I don't know who had them before that though. can you explain what a "demoscene prods" is and how to tell if I have any? I'm new to collecting, in this area of games, and I'm not sure. I'll upload pictures in a few mins Edited September 2, 2011 by MrTibbers
MrTibbers #14 Posted September 2, 2011 here are some images of the games. besides these, there were ones marked as "Music" instead of games, but the labels were the same. there are also tons of disks that looks like they came from magazines. many many other "sets" were they had similar labels but I wasn't sure what they were
