davidbrit2 #1 Posted January 5, 2003 I was just playing Hero, and I noticed something strange. I was somewhere between level 10 and 15 (I forget which,) and came to one of the usual rooms with a switch at the top, and a spiked barrier in the center. I went down again, and got a similar arrangement. I went down two more screens to see if it was necessary to blast the lower barrier, which it was. I headed back up two screens to get through, but the lower of the two dark screens had now become light, lost the barrier, and the enemy was gone. The room layout might have changed, too. I produced the exact same effect in the next game I played. Weird. Is this the result of the game "forgetting" the state of rooms that have been passed in order to save memory, or is there a consistency error in the map data? In any case, it saved me a stick of dynamite, so I'm not complaining. :-)
davidbrit2 #2 Posted January 5, 2003 Okay, I fiddled around with it a bit more, and it seems to just be a side effect of RAM conservation. The game probably only has enough room to store the state of the current room, and the previous room. Moving ahead one room seems to push data off the end of the queue. The question is, how else can this be exploited...
Scott Stilphen #3 Posted January 5, 2003 What level does this happen on (exactly)? I'd like to verify it, and add your info to my Easter egg site
davidbrit2 #4 Posted January 5, 2003 It's most noticeable on level 13, but I believe you can achieve the same effect on any level.
