Without the little sticker that actually transforms it into the ColecoVision box variant? Likely quite often.

The missing platform sticker on the box, the condition of the box, and the missing cartridge label render the worth of this item somewhere below the $9.99 + $2.74 closing price.

What is the story on this one?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/COLECOVISION-EXERION-/291569560420?nma=true&si=0vc7I5Xc%2FQ%2FdFNzlrN5wDBt2deM%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

Hard to tell but is that in more of a plastic clam-shell package or is that just a protective cover for the box?

Well this is a blatant bootleg of Opcode Games Exerion prototype of which Eduardo sold his usual limited release of 5 carts back in 2010. There were also bootlegs of Exerion and Galaga sold on eBay in 2014. More info here.

It looks like a repro of Eduardo's Exerion prototype. The box looks nice, and I'd like to make a trading card with it eventually, if I can get the template image. :)

This particular seller tends to list bootlegs of a number of games, actually.

To answer the original question posed by TPR, it's a plastic clamshell; a VHS protective case in fact of the kind favored by early homebrew authors.

And I can't believe that someone would actually pay $200 for this bootleg...

Considering what it cost to buy one of the five Exerion prototype catridges that Eduardo auctioned off on eBay a number of years ago, I'd say the buyer of this bootleg did very well for himself. I mean all you got from Eduardo was a generic labeled cart that he signed, numbered and now can't even be sold for half of the original winning bid price, but with this bootleg you get a nicely labeled cart along with the plastic clamshell with very nice insert sheet. I wouldn't pay $200 for it, but I completely understand, especially if you really want the game.

There's another bootleg floating around out there that is much nicer than this one and if you are interested.... well, that's for you to figure out.

BTW, the maker of this bootleg has made numerous other prototype repros all in the same style as Exerion including Super DK and Super DK Jr.

Actually it's a universal game case with a homemade printed inner sleeve. Very nice design though...
