Rom Hunter #26 Posted September 7, 2011 Marauder: http://www.atarimania.com/game-atari-2600-vcs-marauder_16947.html Great game. Really like the invisibility feature. I played it for the first time last night because of this thread. You are right. It is a great game. I like the invincibility feature, that there is an end to the maze by destroying the power center, and that there is a time limit. I was confused about why the robots kept disappearing though. I read the manual on your site. Now I understand that the reason they kept disappearing is because the Marauder doesn't have x-ray vision and therefore can't see through walls. That is a clever feature and makes a lot of sense, so now I like that feature also. I also didn't understand why the robots and the Marauder look odd. I read the Video Game Critics review and he explained that it is because you are viewing the maze from an overhead perspective. That is another clever and cool feature. It seems like the programmer played Berzerk and thought,"This game is cool but doesn't make a lot of sense. Why is everyone laying on the ground or is the bottom of the screen the ground and they are floating? Why can everyone see through the walls? Do they have x-ray vision? Why doesn't this maze have an end? Why are the only time limits a bouncing smiley face and a bug in the programming? I have to fix this." I like that. I don't understand why the Video Game Critic gave it an F but gave Berzerk an A and why it wasn't even brought up in the 18 pages of the top 100 thread. Maybe I haven't played it enough? No, it's the other way around: the Video Game Critic hasn't played it enough. At higher levels this game is an excellent blast.
disjaukifa #27 Posted September 7, 2011 Yeah I've actually enjoyed the game immensely, trying to find it on a cartridge, but seeing how rare it is, I don't think that is going to happen anytime soon. I got Venture last night, but its not as fast pace as I thought it would be. Still a good game!
Yart #28 Posted September 7, 2011 (edited) Yea I played Marauder for my first time yesterday. It's pretty much awesome. A shame it wasn't one of the more popular titles. It really is great! Venture is cool too but the 2600 port pales in comparison to the other ports. Still fun though but not as engaging. If you want Venture to be fast try the ColecoVision version. Gorfy #29 Posted September 7, 2011 I think Dark Cavern is a pretty fun Berzerk-like game
disjaukifa #30 Posted September 7, 2011 I think Dark Cavern is a pretty fun Berzerk-like game Hmm I think I saw that for sale at my local game store last night . . . might have to add it to my list of stuff I need to pick up!
Yart #31 Posted September 7, 2011 I'd say Dark Cavern is more like Wizard of Wor. It's got that Pacman linear hallway thing going on. Still worth checking out though!
Lord Helmet #32 Posted September 7, 2011 If you happen to have an Atari 5200 or 8bit computer check out K-Razy Shootout. Very Berzerk like http://www.atariage.com/software_page.html?SoftwareLabelID=633
