SlowCoder #1 Posted September 10, 2011 I have these controllers that I got from a certain $15 "crap-in-a-box" I don't know what to do with them. They're probably just fine as they are, but I have no use for them as PS1 controllers. Thought maybe they could be repurposed to make ergonomic controllers for another system, such as the Atari 7800, Colecovision or Intellivision, or others. I think it would be fairly straightforward to convert one into a 7800 controller. I believe a ColecoVision conversion would require some circuit design to work properly, and not destroy the controller chip in the console. An Intellivision conversion might also be straightforward, though only 8 directions would be possible, instead of the IntV's normal 16. To convert for a ColecoVision or Intellivision, I would need to get creative on my buttons, as these PS1 controllers don't have numberpads. I'm thinking for most games, numbers 1-4, * and # are what's needed. Any ideas?
+thegoldenband #2 Posted September 11, 2011 I can't answer the titular question, but I keep hearing your thread title to the tune of "What Shall We Do With The Drunken Sailor?"

the.golden.ax #4 Posted September 16, 2011 I came in here, after reading the title, ready to tell everyone what I would do. But then I realized you already know what I would do. AX
nathanallan #5 Posted September 16, 2011 I've never had any luck using them on another system, they have a controller chip on the inside that makes the PS1 ready, adn pretty much locked to that system. However, a USB adapter might be good to make them usable on a PC if you like a pad for gaming on the computer.

Obviously part of the conversion would be to remove/bypass the PS1 chip, and replace the cable connector. @ Ax,

the.golden.ax #8 Posted September 16, 2011 christmas is coming soon, you could always put them on a video game themed xmas tree Dude, fantastic idea. I may try some crafty projects like that. Take the board and cord out. Hot glue the buttons back on the inside. Put a ornament cap and hanger on it... awesome! This takes re-purposing old crap to a new level. Rex Dart #10 Posted September 16, 2011 Hey, not a bad idea! You could even pop out the buttons & dpads and use them for decorating without the chunky shell.

Please point out the chunky shell on the girlfriend. Magnification and removal of clothes remain optional.
