DemonoidTentacle #1 Posted September 15, 2011 Just scored a Sega Saturn, any known problems I should know down the track? Motors going out? Controller issues? Anything?
+save2600 #2 Posted September 15, 2011 Yeah, being CD based - I wouldn't count on the laser pickup lasting forever. Controllers and peripherals are typically of excellent quality though.
Vitiman Z #3 Posted September 15, 2011 There is, sadly, a common motor problem that is mainly caused due to shaking, dropping, or harshly putting discs into the Saturn. It causes the system to misidentify game discs as soundtrack discs, and thus making all of your games unplayable.
Seob #4 Posted September 15, 2011 I have a saturn that hangs when it gets hot. When i leave the upper shell away, i can play games without a problem. Going to install a fan to provide cool air.
Rex Dart #5 Posted September 15, 2011 Make sure the battery in the rear of the saturn is good; it's responsible for keeping your game saves. And the cart slot might need a cleaning; I have trouble getting mine to recognize RAM carts sometimes.
Prab #6 Posted September 15, 2011 Yeah, being CD based - I wouldn't count on the laser pickup lasting forever. Controllers and peripherals are typically of excellent quality though. One of the saturns i aquired free recently started doing this, going to see if there is some way to fix it over on segasaturn.co.uk other then that, the saturn is sucha well built machine, the weight of it compared to the ps1 for example, the rugged heavy controller etc Prab
