emkay #2 Posted September 17, 2011 Like this Tittle says... but where's a Program to convert '.sid' into '.mod'? Thanks. Some tools exist to convert SID to MID. As it seems, even the producer doen't know, why he puts 3 channels of a SID into x channels. It's a horrible task to convert it, because you have another step to do in a Mod Tracker, to join the Tracks back together. A good possibility is to convert files from dedicated trackers, like Goat Tracker, or Polly Tracker, or else.

Only for the deep sounds, POKEY cannot produce POKEY's abilites are fair enough to create the rest of a tune. It's just that you have the "POKEY Colour" not the "SID colour" of sound. sack-c0s #5 Posted September 18, 2011 I'd use a tool like that to maybe get hold of the notation - but it's only going to give you a bit of assistance. The pokey hits certain notes badly, the sounds are different... it's still going to take a lot of manual effort to get good results. SIDplay on OSX is good because it shows you the register writes (including notes), so you can use that to see the notation. It's a shame the windows version doesn't do that. Failing that you could use the same technique I use for 'real music' covers - load a .mp3 into VLC and drop the speed to about 75% to have a good listen to some of the more subtle stuff that you might miss at full speed. Also picking up as many cover versions as possible helps, because different people might pick up on different elements of the tune that you hadn't thought so much about and it gives you more to work with. Creature XL #6 Posted September 18, 2011 Just today I found out about SIDdump. It gives you a BIG ASCII-file where you can see all register writes. Then you have all the notes and all ADSR values, waveform (incl. Pulse settings) and filter settings. The rest is up to you. I am about to write a converter to bring it into my format. For RMT you need to code something similar. Oh, the executable is for Windows, however, teh source comes with it and I am pretty sure it compiles flawlessly on every other system. http://noname.c64.org/csdb/release/?id=18501 BTW, these guys are behind GoatTracker it seems. You can check out the sounds with this tool when you hack the values from the ASCII-file into it.
Wrathchild #7 Posted September 19, 2011 Like this Tittle says... but where's a Program to convert '.sid' into '.mod'? Not searching hard enough Sorry, that's not fair... here was an approach one could take, but requires knowledge behind the play routines of the C64 title.
