e-Jagfest UK -> Germany bus

Recommended Posts

This is still planned to happen, however I have had very very little in the way of confirmations from people wanting to go. If you would like to join us on our road trip to Germany, drop me a PM ASAP. If you leave it too late (IE after we have booked crossing tickets etc) it will be tough.

If you want to go to this rather excellent Jagfest show in Germany (Nov 19th) let me know. If you have general questions, ask here in this thread so everyone can benefit from them.

I really want to go, however money right now is really tight.

Can you give us an accurate estimation on how much it will cost?

(I can be picked up from the edge of London if that makes a difference)

Um, "Accurate estimation" ? :) ok.. it will cost money :P

I have no idea what the fuel economy of the minibus will be like, so I have no idea how much fuel will be used. Also the cost of the minibus on the ferry will be higher than a car and the split will depend on how many people go, so again, not sure. IIRC travel it was £60 each last year (that was 4 of us in my car), I would hope the minibus version of the trip was comparible in cost.

We were thinking of staying in the same hotel, I am not 100% Gaz would be the man to ask, but I think that was 100 euro for the 2 days, as in total. sh3 can you remember how much your room was?

The way we did the money last year was I calculated the travel cost split once we were all back home. I can usually absorb a delay in payment from passengers for fuel for a bit, then I come for your thumbs :)

Ideally don't want to get too close to London, so somewhere on the M25 or on way to Dover would be best or at Dover even. But we can sort that out later.

Hope this has been of some help ?

Hmm... so we're looking at about £150 then... I'll have to have a dig behind the sofa, see what I can pull up. When do you need a definite answer by?

That 100 for the room was on a per room basis, so if you split it with someone it would half the cost to you (also that is based on room pricing from the dark recesses of linkobrain).

There is one person who has voiced a willingness at least to share a room, who at present isn't sharing a room... so the possibility is there.

The sooner I know the better as it obviously has baring on the whole thing.

I don't fancy sharing really, and don't think anyone would want to share with me either, apparently I sound "Like a caged dinosaur" when I sleep.

Don't remember the price, it was something like 60/70 euros for a night in a single room IIRC.

Btw, I just wanted to check the prices on a booking website, and it seems that the hotel is fully booked during the ejagfest...

60 sounds about right to me

Right now I am refreshed from my lovely sojourn to Cuba, I guess I need to get this sorted asap! As it stands I am still down to work the weekend of the show, so I hope to be able to sort that out next week when I'm back in the Hellhole! :(

The hotel we used last year is full that weekend too :( Having a quick scout about the cheapest place I can find is in Dortmund & worked out at £148 for 2 nights b+b per room. That's ok if you're sharing, but ramps costs right up for single roomers. The other problem is that Dortmund is about 30 mins away from the event, so may incur a rise in fuel costs! The minibus will cost a £100 (TBH on 1/10) & I think the Ferry crossing was about £200 (link can you confirm this??) Last year we did about 1000 miles round trip, so I should have an approximation of fuel costs next weekend.

Should be able to meet with Link on tuesday at the CC to discuss things further, but its not looking as cheap as last year mainly coz we've missed out on the cheap hotel! :(

Seems to be plenty of hotels in Düsseldorf. Is that an option?

Yes its an option, but the ones in Dortmund are a LOT cheaper from what I've seen. There isn't too much difference distance wise between dortmund or Dusseldorf.

Minibus under 2.4 meters high and I guessed about 7 adults is around £220 for the ferry (that is total price including returning trip on the Sunday.. £101 each way + fuel charge)

Have you sorted the insurance and breakdown cover for the minibus Gaz?

Due to costs and interest it has been deemed to not be cost effective to go via minibus, we are now looking at doing this via the medium of cars (the Battle Barge and Paige).. This *should* bring costs down a fair bit to what we have experienced on previous trips.

Thanks to those that have confirmed their desire, your places are safe (your sanity, any that you may have, is not :) )

Another highlight was the presentation of the only working “High-res Jaguar Virtual Reality Headset” in existence, which was shown for the first time in Europe on the ejagfest in the year 2007.
