AtariGeezer #4 Posted September 20, 2011 (edited) Okay, it's working now, but I had to change the ckeckboxes in "My Settings" Under > Topics & Posts [x] Auto follow topics I reply to. Notification frequency You'll see that the [x] Auto Follow checkbox is checked, but all others under this section were not. After I put a check mark on the boxes under the email column, I started getting mail again Jay Edited September 20, 2011 by AtariGeezer
Albert #5 Posted September 20, 2011 Forum Reply and New Topic notifications were lost in the upgrade due to a bug in the forum installer. Follow this link and you can update your notification settings: http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?app=core&module=usercp&tab=core&area=notifications I'm working on tracking down where these are stored so I can write a script that turns them on for everyone who is subscribed to topics and forums. ..Al
UNIXcoffee928 #6 Posted September 20, 2011 Regarding the upgrade...I appreciate that you're trying to give us the Newest, biggest, best, and everything, but a couple of things are kinda making this a bit of a bummer for me... - The new login does not seem to register correctly with Opera's Password Manager. - The new skin is really drab in an ugly Facebook sort of way... It looks very generic, and no longer has it's unique "look & feel". - The site performs a good 30% slower, and does not feel as responsive as it used to, especially in threads with media links. - Users might not want their username to be listed when they +1 a post I'm sorry to complain, I know that you are doing a lot of work, and trying to make everything as good as it can be... Maybe, once the workload slows down, you can take a moment to look into these issues? Thanks!
flashjazzcat #7 Posted September 20, 2011 (edited) Glad to see that forum now works properly under Explorer 9. Things I miss (and perhaps am looking for in the wrong place): - Resizing of message composition window - Being able to jump directly to the last post in a PM conversation from the top-level pull down menu Generally I like the look of it, though. UNIXcoffee928 #8 Posted September 21, 2011 Here's a workaround for the Opera Password Manager issue that cropped up with the Atariage Upgrade... Go to the secondary login page (the one that you get dropped to if you type an incomplete username & password). This one works correctly. You may need to go through the "Forgot Password" bs, and delete the old entry for atariage in your Tools--> Advanced--> Password Manager, then set it up, but it does work. Excellent synopsis; atariage is a lot of fun for the great content and retro theme, but this version is actually a downgrade for the reasons you cited: Instead of being able to rip through all of the rich content and read so many interesting things quickly, this version of the portal/board software just runs slowly, times out and freezes at odd moments; noticibly descreases the level of usability and functionality present in the previous version by being comparatively slow and akward. . Albert #10 Posted September 21, 2011 Hey guys, like any major forum upgrade, there are going to be ups and downs. I will do the best I can to address issues that are within my control. This includes the "boring", "Facebook" forum skin. It's going to take a big chunk of time for me to do that, though, so I likely won't be able to address the skin until Saturday (my next day off). Regarding speed, this seems to be more of a browser/computer issue, as it's still quite fast on the computers I use it on (a Macbook Pro and a Mac Pro, both using the latest version of Chrome). Older browsers, especially those with slow Javascript engines, will definitely take more time to render pages. Having said that, the forum DOES slow down sometimes (for 10+ seconds) due to slow database queries. That is something I should be able to address, as well as fine-tuning the database engine a bit. I agree about jumping to the first "unread" post in the PM notification drop-down. I have no idea why Invision chose to just go to the first post. I will post a suggestion to fix that on their forum, but I may also be able to fix it myself in the skin. And I'll check out the Opera Password Manager issue (will have to install Opera again!) The popup login screen is new to this version of the software and was a much-requested feature by other forum admins (so you don't have to go to a separate page just to login). It's possible there's already a bug filed against this issue. Just checked, and no bug has been filed, so I will do that myself later today. It's also possible this is a problem with the Opera Password Manager. I sometimes run into this with 1Password on various sites. Thanks for the feedback, it is appreciated. ..Al

+GroovyBee #15 Posted September 21, 2011 Lately I get "Server too busy to handle request" errors incessantly. Taken from the top of the Forums page :- "Note: Yes, the forum is timing out today--a ticket has already been submitted with Invision and I will be able to spend time working on it this evening. Please be patient!" So Al is on the case.

Albert #17 Posted September 21, 2011 Lately I get "Server too busy to handle request" errors incessantly. Yes, there are some queries that are causing the database server to lock until those queries complete. I can't do much about this until I get home later. Invision needs some information that I won't be able to give them until this evening. Hopefully it'll be somewhat well behaved until then. The "Server too busy" pops up when the server load goes above 5.0. This prevents additional queries from piling up, which can ultimately bring the server to a complete halt in a cascading fashion. ..Al

sloopy #19 Posted September 21, 2011 i didnt care much for the last upgrade, but once the full skin was installed, i was ok with it... i think its odd they dont get their email updates, where i didnt have them on before and get them now (yes, i read how to turn them off...) and the surver busy thing, i have seen it too... Al, only thing i want to comment/complain on is, i would like to see upgrades done after the AA skin is done, and ready to go... any other complaints/objections will wait until the AA skin is brought to production :') sloopy. Albert #20 Posted September 21, 2011 Al, only thing i want to comment/complain on is, i would like to see upgrades done after the AA skin is done, and ready to go... Doing the upgrade before the skin is done basically forces me to do the skin in a more timely manner than I might otherwise. This upgrade may have been put off for who knows how much longer if I tried to get the skin done first. At any rate, the skin changes won't (likely) be as extensive as they have been in the past, so theoretically it should be easier to migrate it to future major versions. I don't anticipate another "major" version for some time.. ..Al
