+FujiSkunk #26 Posted October 10, 2011 Got any more real classic examples? I mean I just can't sympathize with someone's disappointment over Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2. I was hoping for some NES or Atari examples to read about. For instance I always thought Ikari Warriors 2: Victory Road sucked. The voice came out really bad on the NES port, and the graphics were a complete mess. I liked Victory Road, if only because the programmers did a fantastic job porting it to the Apple II, the only system I owned at the time that got the game. Rex Dart #27 Posted October 10, 2011 (edited) I love Ikari 2: VR on the NES! As a follow-up to Ikari Warriors 1 on the NES, it's great. As an arcade port it might be lacking, but we aren't talking about disappointing arcade-to-console ports. Edited October 10, 2011 by Rex Dart
Animan #28 Posted October 10, 2011 Daytona USA 2001 and Daytona USA 2 weren't nearly as good as the original. CCE wasn't either, but it was still quite enjoyable, and the 2 new tracks were excellent. NiGHTS on the Wii is a good game. That is, until you've played the Saturn version. Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures. UGH. It's like Namco had a somewhat dull adventure game and decided to throw Pac-Man in at the last minute to help the game sell.
Rex Dart #29 Posted October 10, 2011 Guess I'll throw Pac-Man World 3 on the pile. PMW2 was great, I thought, but PMW3 dropped the ball.
NE146 #30 Posted October 10, 2011 ACTRAISER 2. I was so excited for this one and it was truly a disappointment when they took away the sim elements. As for Zelda 2, as a Zelda fan yeah it threw me for a loop. However after 20+ years I have to say it remains as one of my favorite video games of ALL TIME. For me that's pretty big with all the video games I've played in my life. The music is perfect, it's just a great fun time especially if you know what you're doing (leveling up correctly, etc.)
DemonoidTentacle #31 Posted October 10, 2011 Can I count Donkey Kong Country as a followup? At the time I was expecting something MUCH better than it was. The level design was not on par with the likes of Super Mario World. I wasn't disappointed by Zelda II, but when I first played Super Mario Bros 2 I was all "WTF is this?" at first, but then I grew to love it.
Chuplayer #32 Posted October 10, 2011 Starfox 64 = You can tell that Miyamoto took a more active role in the design of this game, because it sucks. Everything good about the first game is gone, and there's even more emphasis on the stupid mascot characters. I love the original to this day, but this sequel and all the ones which followed are unplayable, gimmicky garbage. You're pillaging my childhood. Star Fox 64 is bad, but the first one is good? I don't think I've ever met anybody who disliked the sequel when they liked the original, much less liked it less than the original but still liked it. Austin #33 Posted October 11, 2011 (edited) Thought Star Fox 64 was awesome, personally, except for the character voice acting. And the fact it was a walk in the park (I think I finished it the first time I played it). And it could have used some driving tunes like the first level theme from the original Star Fox. +HammR25 #35 Posted October 11, 2011 I never cared for River Raid 2.

I really really enjoyed SNES Starfox but did feel let down somewhat by Starfox 64. It's kind of a hard thing to place though.. I did like it though but maybe it just wasn't as much fun? Actually I think a lot of what let me down about Starfox 64 is they the music! The original SNES music IS "Starfox" to me. But the music in Starfox 64 was pretty much forgettable. I was hoping they'd remix some of the original tunes. It's kind of like if Empire Strikes back didn't have the opening Star Wars music. e.g. even the stage select sounds epic and spacey http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LyFL7aG9fhk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_Qwpt61CRI

I played both equal amounts, and I could bust out the SNES tunes all day, but if someone told me to do a tune from 64, I'd draw a blank.
