Everdrive MD / Everdrive SMS Questions

Recommended Posts

^ That's what I've come close to doing. The only cart I use in my genesis other than my Everdrive now are ones that save to the cart, like Beyond Oasis and Phantasy Star. For some reason, I like having the saves on the carts.

Yeah but those batteries go eventually and replacing them is a pain (although possible). I can't wait until the TG-16 version comes out, then I can start selling off my Turbo collection as well. I was never really into 'collecting' for these systems, I just wanted to play the games. :)

My Genesis collection stands at around 90 carts, I have most of the 32X games (minus the ultra expensive ones), and around 100 SMS games (all boxed). I think selling those off will fund my Everdrive purchases. :)

Are any games known NOT to work (other than SNES games that use special chips)?

I'm thinking about selling off my Genesis and SMS collections to buy some Everdrives (MD, SMS, and SNES). Assuming the compatibility is near or at 100%, I don't see a reason to own the physical cartridges anymore.

I would say I agree with you, except for one thing ... If your EverDrive fails, you're out ALL your games. Of course, you could buy 2. But EverDrive isn't cheap.

He just announced today he has been working on TG16/PCE EverDrive.

...

Awesomeness.

What about a Neo Geo Everdrive ? ;)

I don't know much about the Neo-geo architecture, but I hear to make an actual flashcart would be very very hard to the point it would not be cost effective or maybe not even possible. At least that's what they have said over at the assemblergames forum and those guys seem to know their stuff.

I would think the ROM size alone would make that unfeasible. There are multi-carts available, although they're cruddy pirate ones.

there are neo-geo multicarts out there that give you most of the best games, not all of course but with the really god emulation available on consoles like a soft modded xbox1, I don't think a neogeo flash would be at the top of anyone's flashcart wish-list.

There is gonna be a turbo version!? D: Any idea when this is coming out because I love my TG-16 but man are the games expensive and hard to come by anywhere else then ebay.

Eh, emulation isn't relevant to this. Why would we be discussing genesis flashcarts if it were? Those pirate carts seem to have most of your bases covered; "legit" games, pirate hacks, 120 of 'em per cart... if I had a neo geo and a pirate cart were significantly cheaper than a full-featured flashcart, I'd probably get the 120-in-1.

it has already been said that an actual flashcart is impossible and that has been covered before as well in the flashcart/multicart thread where the assembler forums were also mentioned as the source. Emulation IS relevant as an alternative to flash carts. sorry if you don't agree.

Of course emulation's relevant as a flashcart alternative.

We're not talking about alternatives, though. Just flash carts.

I sold all of my MVS carts last year and now play all my Neo Geo games via emulation. They were arcade games to begin with, so I don't mind emulating them.

I'm just gonna chalk this up to you not realizing how rude that sounds... you're not a moderator, you do not own this this thread and you do not dictate to me or anyone what they can and can not discuss. if you feel it is not relevant, than ignore it.

Funnily enough I *am* a moderator and I *do* own this thread. How about that?

Just wanted to point that out because it makes me feel important. Far more important than I have a right to feel. Carry on.

PS: Oh and you guys can discuss whatever. I really don't care. How about MSX Flash Carts? I'm interested in those as well.

thank you for the permission to say what i want when I want... but I already knew I had that permission ;)

so, there is an MSX cart? I have not checked the newly updated flash cart list yet, I guess I should.

Commodore 64 may be in future. I sent him a C64 awhile back. He claims it was just for his collection, but I wonder.

wow really? there are tons of C64 solutions. I have quite a few of them. most are quite cheap. check the flashcart thread for links

There is but I don't know much about it. MSX stuff is almost unknown in the US so all the new development rarely makes news here. I need to look into it because importing MSX carts is really expensive.

Yes, just because its been done doesn't mean he won't do it. I am not saying he is. I don't actually know, I am just speculating. He did a SMS and GG EverDrive and those are hardly big sellers either, so its not just about the possible profit of a flashcart for him it seems. If he gets the supply issue figured out I have no problem making a flashcart for anything. He said he now has 10 people helping him do carts now, so I hope that makes production go way up.

I have a really cool MSX machine, a Yamaha CX5M it is mainly for music but it is MSX compatible and has an MSX cartridge slot. I actually have an extra one if someone wants to buy one

@stoneagegamer: I guess I'm just wondering what he could possibly bring to the table for the C64 that has not already been done a few times over. I'd much rather see him tackle the Amiga or the ST as the only solutions for those are floppy emulators or cf hard drives... that being said I so hope he gets to the gameboy soon [i know, I'm a broken record]

I am seriously looking into getting an Everdrive for my SMS.

Retrogate claims to have them in stock for $77 dollars, but that's just for the board.

Warners Retro corner has them for 65 pounds, but again, just for the board.

Kitsch-Bent has them for $92, again, just the board.

Stone Age Gamers website doesn't seem to say whether they are in stock or not and the price is $0?

I'm not the type to try and mod a cart casing to hold this, tho if I knew how I guess I would. Mainly tho I'd be willin to pay a little extra for one already in a case.

Plus on Stone AgeGamers website I was given the impression that I can't update the cart myself? is this true? if so I'll wait till the most complete update is standard before buying one!

I'd like to see an Everdrive done for the Atari Jaguar. Immediately, I figure Krikzz will never do this, because he's probably never seen a Jaguar, it probably was never sold in Ukraine, and even if he has seen one and it was sold in the Ukraine, it never sold enough to justify the R&D costs.

The Jag was never popular (relative to other consoles that have Everdrives made for them) but the Jag's following appears to be fairly rabid. Look at all of the Skunkboards that are sold for the thing. The Skunkboard is primarily sold as "a development tool" and the playing of commercial "ROMS" is "not supported" (wink wink, nod nod). Now, does anybody really think that all of these people who sell out every production run of the Skunkboard are developing games? I surmise that most people are using it as a flashcart (or we'd see TONS of new Jag games), and in a rather troublesome fashion. What they really want is an Everdrive for the Jag.

The rabid following seems willing to take their wallets out an purchase Skunkboards. I'll bet they'd take them out again and buy an Everdrive, don't you? Hell, I'd buy one.

As a relatively new 32X owner, can I ask what "the ultra expensive ones" are? I know T-Mek was either rare back in the day or just harder to find nowadays so I have heard it can be pricey, but what other ones are there?

For domestic (US) releases, a handful of 32X games are worth a fair amount. The most valuable by far is Spider-Man: Web of Fire, which goes for around $150 CIB. Pitfall is at least $50, and World Series Baseball Starring Deion Sanders is around the same. Knuckles Chaotix has risen to about that cost too, though the other two games are much rarer than Knuckles.

Then there's the next tier down with Primal Rage, T-Mek, Blackthorne, Kolibri, WWF Wrestlemania: The Arcade Game, and Star Trek, roughly in that order of rarity. Blackthorne and Kolibri aren't that rare but are in high demand (relatively speaking), whereas Primal Rage is much rarer but isn't as sought-after. After Burner, Night Trap, and Tempo can also get a little pricy but should generally be under $20. Everything else is $15 or less, with the most common games (Doom, Fred Couples, Motocross, Cosmic Carnage) bottoming out at $5.

There are four international exclusives, and while FIFA Soccer (PAL) can go as low as $10 CIB (though it's usually more), the others are crazy expensive. Sangokushi IV (Romance of the Three Kingdoms IV), the only Japanese 32X exclusive, is $250+; some sources say it should reach $1000, but I've seen complete copies on Ebay for much less.

DarXide, the other PAL exclusive, is $1000+. And Surgical Strike 32X, a Brazilian exclusive, will probably break $2000 if a copy ever comes up for auction, since only two copies have ever been found and neither one has been dumped.

BTW PAL versions of a couple games can also run over $1000. Primal Rage was one, and I think the other was T-Mek.
