Guess this mod!

Recommended Posts

I need help identifying a small modification on my dead 1200XL mobo. I'm transfering upgrades to another 1200XL, came across this mod (or part of another mod?) to the mobo's SIO lines. But I don't recall why I did it. What's it do? Anyone recognize it? Just a small wire connecting two pins/lines and a wire going from on of the pins to ground. Thanks for any insight in advance!

I've done this inside SIO2SDs before - tying both possible GND pins on the SIO to ground, just in case some device decides to use the "other" ground pin. Looks like that pin was originally left floating on the 1200XL.

4 and 6 pins on the SIO plug are ground pins with wire to motherboard ground. Must have been to enhance grounding of the SIO plug

Thanks! That's probably exactly why I did it, I've gone through tons of different devices that use the SIO through the years, at some point I must have gotten something, like the P:R: Connection or something that needed this done on the 1200XL to work properly. Probably why I couldn't find any online info as directions for this mod were probably imbedded within the manual of said device.

I'll go ahead an do this on the new mobo too, then, while doing the other upgrades, so the problem never arises in the future.
