+Yurkie
If you didn't get a picture it didn't happen:) Kim (Ms. Do) has got the stock and then made it through a couple levels in regular. Not sure about points. You should message Ikrananka and request it for the High Score club, it is a favorite of Kim and I, as you know Brian. Ikrananka
Oil's Well is one of my favourites and will be coming up in this season's CV HSC. It hasn't been played in the HSC since Season 1 (Jan 2008). From that HSC I had what I thought was an astounding run (for me) and I still came second and then with only 37,320. One of the great masters of CV games, duncantoml, was first with a great score of 95,620. If you join in the CV HSC as a new player then send me the names of two games you would like to play and I will add then to the list of game requests (see my signature for a link to the HSC). VectorGamer
Oil's Well is one of my favourites Oil's Well is based on the arcade game Anteater although it is easier to play. I started playing it a couple of weeks ago and it was screwing me up because I thought it had the same rules as Anteater where you could only eat the bad guys from behind. It's an addictive game! Metal Jesus
I'm proud to say that I just got a copy of this game for the ColecoVision, as it was one of my favorites on the C64. Can't wait to dig into it!

+Yurkie
Your playing "regular" correct? Ever try "unleaded" or "premium"?
patbb
Great score. Make sure to come play in the High score club when that game is played. I already suggested this game. It`s also one of my favorite, but I`m not even close to the scores you can acheive!

I brought over my multi-cart and showed him the game, and a couple weeks later he has the cart and is on his way to holding the World Record. ChuckH
Yurkie: I tried playing just Premium and made it to 80,000 something but I usually start out on Regular which switches to Unleaded after level 8 and the stock bonus and then to Premium after level 8 again. I can't remember trying for a high score before. I just wanted to make it through three level eights and then I quit playing this game some time ago. It took quite a while to do this as I remember and I have no idea what my score was. I had this game a long time ago when I had an ADAM and I loved it. I now use an emulator and I don't know if this makes it easier or harder to tell you the truth. I just use the keyboard. There are a couple of things to do to boost your score. Anyway, here's another try. I made it through two level 8's and to level 6 again.

I think my Girlfriend's best is making in thru the 8 and getting the stock and then back to about the 6th level. I personally can only make it to level 5 or 6. It will be cool when Ikrananka puts it up on the HSC.
AtariBrian
yeah, not sure if the emulater is harder or easier... anyone know? well, do you own a coleco version to try it on chuckh ?
+Yurkie
The emulator in theory is exactly the same, so it would be so close as not to matter. The difference would be the controller. Using a keyboard sucks IMO. So my thought is that if chuck kicks that much as with a keyboard, he would really do well with a controller. ChuckH
AtariBrian: Well, I tried it on my ADAM 20 some years ago but I really can't remember. I think I did pretty good. Great score by you, BTW. I'm thinking of getting a ColecoVision just for old times sake. Anyway, I tried different versions of Oil's Well for something different systems. I think the original was for the C-64 so I gave it a try through the Vice emulator. First time through I made it to 90,000 something with a bunch of lives left before I stopped. It is a little different than the Colecovision version. You can get a lot more than 4 lives for instance. A few of the levels are a little different. Not much but I can notice. Another version is for MSX and it appears to be almost the same as the Coleco version. A couple of sounds are different and that's about it. I tried it on the MESS emulator and here's my score. I almost made it through four times. I was sooo close. It plays the same but maybe just a hair slower.

Ikrananka
There are a couple of things to do to boost your score. Are you willing to share any hints on how to boost your score? Rhomaios
Thanks for the info - I wasn't aware of Anteater and shall now have to give it a go. Am I the only one who found the arcade version of Anteater to be too difficult to enjoy? I haven't nabbed Oil's Well yet, but it looks to be the more enjoyable, not as coin-grubbing as Anteater. And I thought I liked them to come tough! Dammit, wrong thread! I thought I was in the "what arcade games weren't ported" thread.
WispFollower
Seeing this old thread has inspired me. Time to turn up the surround sound and get into this intensely loud and thrilling game!

bkrownd
This is an incredibly great game, and is one of the titles on the flashback. Any tips on turning corners more reliably? I always have trouble getting the dang thing to make turns - most of the time I overshoot and have to "retract" multiple times to make the turn. (flashback) I've noticed that I need to command the turn just ahead of the corner for it to turn at all, but even doing that I mostly overshoot.
