Play as the Villain?

Recommended Posts

A friend of mine made a comment on my video for Dracula on the Intellivision saying, "what other classic game from the early 80s lets you play as the villain?"

That is an interesting question. Are there any other classic/retro games where you can play as the villain?

Getaway! on A8 comes to mind (one of my faves)

Pirates! greatly encourages piracy though it's not entirely necessary.

Dreamweb on PC/Amiga has you playing a character that turns out to be real evil (that's more 90's)

Custer's Revenge comes down to interpretation, I suppose

otherwise, I can think of a lot of 'if you choose to be evil' games that don't specifically encourage one path or another. (either by being morally neutral with a single character, or by offering a selection of two or more 'teams').

(shameless video plug of getaway!)

Texas Chainsaw Massacre comes to mind immediately.

When I made the comment on Youtube I kind of meant what game made by a reputable mainstream company (like Imagic) lets you play as the villan

I would put TCM into the same catagory as Custers Revenge and Beat em and Eat em

I've got a good one for the list:

Wizardry IV: The Return of Werdna

Basically, you play as the evil wizard you defeated at the end of Wizardry I. Instead of descending down into a dungeon, Werdna starts off virtually powerless at the bottom of the dungeon, and has to climb his way out, defeating CPU heroes rolled from real players' parties rather than monsters, which Werdna summons to fight the heroes. Instead of levels and experience, Werdna has to find a pentagram on each floor that restores a portion of his might. Possibly the hardest game in the series, and an awesome premise.
